SIGHT WORD NINJA APP INSTRUCTIONS1. Sight Word Ninja is an app for iPhones and iPads. It is $2 and has sight words from preschool to third

grade. The app says words aloud to students and they slash through the word being said like a ninja! This is a fun game that breaks up the monotony of daily flashcards.

2. The game is easily customized for your child. To really make the most of this game, you should spend some time customizing the sight words to match the sight words they still have to work on for school. To get into the parental controls, tap the gear in the top right corner. Then do th 3 finger password.

3. You can change the game settings. The difficulty setting affects how fast the words fly through the air. The Random Playback allows words to repeat. (I normally keep the difficulty at medium, turn on random playback, and set the game duration to 2 minutes. You don’t want the duration to be too long or your child may get bored.)

4. You can even set the categories by turning grades on an off.

5. You can even go into each grade level and select which specific words you want to include by turning on and off the words with the controls in the right column.

To make the most of this app, I look through the words that the child needs to work on in school and go through each grade and turn on just the words that they need to work on. This helps them focus on the words that they need to the most.

Tip: The words from their Dolch lists at school do not match up with just first grade in the Sight Word Ninja app. The words are scattered throughout each grade, so this make take some time to sort through and find each word.
