What’s Happening With Mrs. Chroscinski’s Crew? October Newsletter Science/Social Studies Study guides will come home for each unit. *Animal Life Cycles: Students will conclude their study of the life cycles of frogs and butterflies. *Skeletons: Students will learn about the bones in our skeleton. ELA We will be using a variety of fiction and nonfiction stories to practice applying reading strategies and skills. Here is what we will focus on this month: *Summarizing: Tell what happens in the beginning, middle and end of a story in our own words. *Fact and Opinion: Identify the difference between a fact and opinion within and about different texts. *We will then spend time reviewing the strategies and skills we have learned so far this year through Writing *Grammar: Students will practice identifying and writing different types of sentences. We will focus on capitalization and punctuation. *Writing: Students will work on a piece of informational writing about either the butterfly or frog life cycle. We will practice working through the entire writing process to create a published final copy. Students will then complete the same process for a piece of Math *Our next unit is on Place Value to 100. Students will learn the terms standard form, word form, expanded form, odd and even. They will practice writing and identifying numbers in these forms as well as comparing numbers using the greater than, less than and equal to symbols. (>, <, =) Students will practice skip counting and ordering numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least. *Students will continue to practice fact fluency through mathboxes. Reminders/Notes *Fundraiser orders and money are due back to school on Monday, October 2. *Thursday, October 5 will be an early dismissal day for students. (12:35pm) *There will be no school on Friday, October 6 or Monday, October 9.

We will focus on capitalization and punctuation.*Writing: Students will work on a piece of informational writing about either the butterfly or frog life cycle. We will practice working through the entire writing process to create a published final copy. Students will then complete the same process for a piece of opinion writing.

They will practice writing and identifying numbers in these forms as well as comparing numbers using the greater than, less than and equal to symbols. Fluency tests will be given once a week. Students will come home with flashcards to practice as needed.
