CBSE CLUSTER VI VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT FOR BOYS – 2016 (Organised by Jeeva Velu International School, Mathur, Cuddalore Road, Tiruvannamalai) ABOUT TIRUVANNAMALAI The temple town of Tiruvannamalai is one of the most ancient heritages of India and is a centre of the Shiva worship. Located on the foothills of Annamalai hills, Tiruvannamali was ruled by the Pallavas, the Medieval Cholas, the Later Cholas, Hoysalas, Vijayanagar Empire, Carnatik Kingdom, Tippu Sultan and the British. The town of Tiruvannmalai is ruled by a special grade Municipality that covers an area of 16.33 sq. km. and had a population of 1,44,278 in 2011. Roadways are major mode of transport; however, the town also has railway connectivity. Chennai International Airport is the nearest airport to the town. The holy mountain of Arunachala rises up with an elevation of 2669 ft. and the road, encircling the mountain is 14 k.m. long. On full moon days and festival days, hundreds and thousands of devotees circumbulate the mountain which is called “Girivalam”. The Annamalayar Temple is the most important landmark. The temple complex covers an area of 25 acres and houses four gateways known as gopurams. The most important festival is celebrated during the Tamil Month Karthigai, between November and December every year. A huge lamp is lit in a cauldron, containing three tons of ghee at the top of the hills during the Deepam. The Ramana Ashram and Ashram of Yogi Ramsuratkumar, located around Annamali hills are popular visitor attractions of Tiruvannamalai. The Sathanur Dam over the Thenpennai River is located 20 km southwest of the town. Jawadhu hills is situated 75 km from Tiruvannamalai and its cliffs, the Beema Falls, Komutteri Lake, Kavanur Observatory, Amirthi Forest, Glass House - all excite the tourists. VOLLEY BALLDeveloped around the late 1890s, Volleyball, initially known as “Mintonette” was meant to be a less arduous alternative to Basketball. Within a few years of its invention, the sport had started to be played in many countries. However it made its Olympic debut much later in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics where Gold medals were won by Soviet Union and Japan. Since then Volleyball has been a part of every Olympic Games. There is no particular team that has dominated throughout its history in Olympics though Cuba has set a record of winning three gold medals in 3 consecutive years.

IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS

1. Each participating school shall register 12 players, (maximum)one coach and one team manager for the tournament.

2. The players should carry the student ID card issued by the Organizing School throughout the tournament.

3. Schools should bring their School Flags to participate in the march past and other occasions.

4. All the players will be given participation certificate.5. Every player is expected to maintain proper discipline in the school campus during

his stay for the tournament.6. Any damage done to the properties of the organizing school during the stay by

any player shall have to be compensated by the respective team manager/coach.7. All the participating teams shall remit a refundable caution deposit of Rs.2000/- at

the time of reporting and it will be refunded after necessary clearance by the organizing committee.

8. Charges for food and accommodation will be Rs.350/- per head, per day, which is payable for both the days at the time of reporting. This includes mess arrangements from the dinner on 08-09-2016 till evening tea on 10-09-2016. {08.09.2016 – Dinner; 09.09.2016 – Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner; 10.09.2016 – Breakfast, Lunch, Evening tea}

9. All the teams have to vacate the premises latest by 7:00 p.m. on 10th Sept. 201610. No team shall be accompanied by more than two officials. 11. The officials accompanying the teams should have a valid ID card issued by the

representing school.12. Non- designated persons will not be entertained for any reason at the venue and

will not be permitted to stay in the premises.13. The school, withdrawing from the tournament without prior

intimation/permission, will pay a penalty of Rs.1000/-14. A team’s/player’s right to play the tournament forfeits if the team or the player

fails to produce the papers supporting the eligibility in original, on demand.15. Team, which involves in indiscipline activities, as decided by the organizing

committee, will be disqualified and vacated from the venue.16. Team members and managers/coaches shall not be permitted to go out or enter

the campus after 9:00 p.m. on 09-09-2016 (Friday) due to security reasons.
