Blending to readYour child has been taught to ‘blend’ sounds (that he/she has previously learnt) to read words.

Ask your child to read the word, (do not read the word for your child first) Ask your child to say the sounds and work out the word. If he/she hesitates, ask them to say the sounds more quickly and have another go. (If your child is struggling to do this let his/her teacher know.)

Ask your child to use the picture to help.

Remember to praise your child when they succeed.
