Scenario – To support your development of knowledge within two team sports you have been asked to record seven of your team sport training sessions. Each training session that you select should cover one of the core skills, techniques and tactics of a team sport. For each session you should detail in the logbook provided how the coaching staff at your club delivered the session and how you performed in the session. On completion of all seven sessions you will then need to explain what skills, techniques and tactics are needed in 2 different team sports.

Vocational Context – As a sports coach/instructor, it is very important that you know and understand the skills, techniques and tactics of different sports. The more knowledge you develop about each of these areas the greater the understanding you will have about how to improve and develop yourself and others within a selected sport. A broad knowledge of different sports may lead to further interest and in some instances further careers in sport and physical education.

Task 1: Team Sports Logbook

Firstly, you should complete a logbook for Practical Team Sports that has the following information:

Describes (P1) the skills, techniques and tactics required in 2 different team sports Explain (M1) the skills, techniques and tactics required in 2 different team sports Demonstrates (P3) appropriate skills, techniques and tactics in 2 different team

sport

Assessment and grading scheme:

To pass this unit, the evidence that the learner presents for assessment needs to demonstrate that they can meet all the learning outcomes for the unit. The assessment criteria for a pas grade describe the level of achievement required to pass this unit.

Assessment and Grading Criteria Description

When you see describe you should try and paint a picture in words to the reader. It is useful to always think that the reader of your script knows nothing and therefore you have to teach the reader the knowledge that you have through your assignment.

When you are asked to explain you should describe the point and then give details and reason of why. For example, if you are describing sporting injuries to explain the injury you would provide an example from the world of sport of an athlete who has had the injury and explain the causes of this injury to the player, you may also explain the treatment to the player.

When you are asked to analyse you should select the key points that you have been asked to look at and explain each point providing reasons for each point and possible impacts. e.g. if you where analysing the recent success of Chelsea Football Club. You would pick out the key factors behind Chelsea’s success; Money; Manager; Key Players – Frank Lampard, etc. you would then explain the contribution each person has had on the success of the club and what the club could do in the future to continue their reign.
