Batman Arkham City

Batman Arkham City is the latest game by Rocksteady Studios, and it is published by Warner Bros. Interactive and Eidos Interactive. Arkham City is the sequel to Batman Arkham Asylum and it takes place a few months after the events of Arkham Asylum.

Story

Former Arkham Asylum warden Quincy Sharp is now the mayor of Gotham City, and he has put Professor Hugo Strange to run the prison. After shocking opening sequence you find out that Hugo Strange knows Batman’s the real Identity and that he is plotting something called Protocol 10, and it is your job to stop it. You will encounter other villains such as Two Face, The Penguin, The Riddler, Bane, and many more that I will not spoil. Also the Joker is back and he is out for revenge after the events of the previous game. The story of Arkham city is very well written with plenty of twist that you will not see coming.

Game play

The game play in Arkham City remains complete untouched from the original game with a few tweaks that make the game better and more fun. The best part about the game is still the combat, it still plays the same but has had a few touch ups from the original. For example every gadget can be used in combat, and you can now counter up to 4 enemies at once. The other improvement in the game is the way you navigate the world, since Arkham City is an open world game the gliding mechanics have been improved. Another great part about the game is the stealth parts of the game where you are put in a room with armed thugs and it is up to you to figure out how to take them down. When you play you get the feeling that you are batman witch is one of the best things about the game.


Design

Arkham City was design as an open world game which means that the way you do things is a lot more open. There are about a dozen side missions that you can partake in whenever you want and each of them feels unique, but some do stand out more than others. One of the returning side missions from the original game that does make a comeback is the Riddler puzzles and if you thought that the 100 trophies to collect in the original was a lot, there are more than 400 different trophies in this game. And unlocking these trophies will unlock concept art, character trophies and challenge rooms. There are also plenty of great boss fights in this game the only problem with them is that they feel very scripted and they are very repetitive in the sense that once you figure out the bosses weak spot it becomes easy to take them down.






Presentation

Arkham City looks great thanks to its attention to detail you really feel like you’re in Gotham city. The characters look great and so does the animation in the game, a lot of care when into the combat animations because it feels so smooth and there is plenty of variety in the animations. Also the amount of detail that went into creating Arkham City is great from the posters around the city to the different landmarks it all looks great. The voice acting is top notch with an outstanding performance from the joker. Over all the game looks and sounds great there is a bit of texture pop in every once in a while but it’s nothing serious.


Overall

Batman Arkham City is a great game with a great story and game play to match; there is plenty to do once the game is over. You really get the feeling of being Batman in this game, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for this series.
