OUR GROUP STRATEGY 14

OUR GROUP STRATEGY

FACTS FROM ‘STRONGER TOGETHER’ TO ‘WINNING TOGETHER’2016 marked the final year of the five-year company strategy ‘Stronger Together’. Much has been achieved since ‘Stronger Together’ was launched in 2012; we have grown revenue by 54% and EBITA by 69%, maintained a leading position in the Nordics, significantly increased our global footprint, and progressed in our portfolio development with the successful internationalisation of Energy, and the establishment of Environment & Health and Water as new global practices. At the beginning of 2017, Ramboll launched its new Group strategy ‘Winning Together’.

‘Winning Together’ sets the direction of Ramboll from 2017 to 2020 and is a continuation of the journey that started with the ‘Stronger Together’ strategy. The ambition is to further consolidate our leading position as Sustainable Society Consultant by leveraging the strong platform for profitable growth that has been built through our international presence and strengthened portfolio.

The new strategy revolves around five strategic building blocks:

• Become truly client-centric bringing the best of Ramboll• Further develop and grow our regional strongholds• Grow internationally through spearhead services building on our platform• Be a recognised leader for sustainable solutions• Secure the future by accelerating digitalisation.

These five building blocks are supported by four key internal enablers: Collaboration, Performance Culture, People and Leadership. The ‘Winning Together’ strategy addresses the opportunities and challenges we currently face whilst remaining closely aligned with our legacy. As a value-based, purpose driven company, Ramboll continues to be guided by the beliefs set out by our founders more than 70 years ago – a legacy that emphasises high ethical standards, responsibility towards clients and society, and satisfied employees.

In recent years, Ramboll has grown into a truly international company, present in many geographies, and gifted with colleagues from many different cultures. Our clients also face very different challenges now. We have revitalised our fundamentals to reflect this new landscape.

Our fundamentals have been carefully aligned with the ambitions we have as a company and provide clear guidance on fulfilling our strategy. In addition to our mission, vision and values, the fundamentals also present a new element - our commitments to key stakeholders.

Together, they are our core beliefs that capture the essence of being Ramboll.

and EBITA margin improved considerably. For the second consecutive year, a cash conversion above 100% was achieved. Ramboll is now

Over the five-year strategy period, Ramboll’s revenue increased by 54% and EBITA by nearly 70% despite the negative impact of the challenging oil and gas market, as well as on those units operating in adjacent markets and geographies. In addition, Ramboll has maintained a leading position in the Nordics, made large inroads outside Denmark with 74% of revenue now generated internationally.

SIGNATURE PROJECTS WITHIN THE ARCTIC

Society Building, GreenlandTo help the Greenlandic government in prioritising the country’s limited investment funds to areas that represent the best value for society, Ramboll is performing socio-economic impact assessments and cost-benefit analyses on the expansion of the container harbour in Nuuk and increasing capacity in the education sector.

Barents Freeway, Barents RegionThe ‘Barents Freeway’ project will pave the way for cohesive future development of a transport systemacross the Barents region. Historically, transport strategy has been developed on a national level toserve the individual needs of Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. Renewed interest in the Arctic callsfor more effective logistics and international transport routes, which is driving increased co-operationamongst the region’s transport administrations. Ramboll is part of the consultancy group led by Pöyry that is undertaking a broad and integrated assessment of transport network development with a view to achieving a common Barents region transport strategy and optimised infrastructure. The group was appointed on the initiative after being rated best for quality.

Hannukainen mine, FinlandTo facilitate production of iron concentrate, gold and copper, Ramboll is conducting environmentalimpact assessment reporting, and land use planning for the whole life cycle of the mine. By employingMulti-Criteria Decision Analysis, Ramboll has been able to undertake an integrated assessment on acomplex range of data, which revealed the need to identify an alternative location for operations.

Environment health and safety audits of Kupol and Kubaka mines, RussiaRamboll Environ assisted Kinross Gold for eight years with corporate EHS audit of their mines in Chukchi autonomous region and Magadan region. The comprehensive assessments covered all aspects of the mines’ operations. The work included assessing compliance with relevant environmental and occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements, evaluation of the actual and potential environmental and OHS risks associated with past and current operations. We also evaluated waste rock, tailings disposal,

and waste management schemes, as well as hazardous materials storage practices, compliance management and EHS management systems capabilities.

Oil spill response planning in the Arctic, CircumpolarWe led an Arctic oil spill response technology joint industry programme to evaluate the toxicology and biodegradation of chemically and physically dispersed oil in the open ocean, ice-free environment of the Arctic Beaufort and Chukchi Seas. It was the first time such studies had been carried out in the Arctic. The studies concluded that the rate of biodegradation in the Arctic compares to other parts of the world and that chemically dispersed oil degrades more effectively. We were also commissioned to develop an NEBA tool to assess the ecological impacts of alternative oil spill response actions to identify the most effective way of reducing the impact of oil spill treatment residuals on less resilient environmental compartments or valuable ecosystem components.

Supporting responsible oil exploration, AlaskaWe have supported a major international client with its Alaska outer continental shelf exploration programme for more than five years. We assisted with permitting strategy, emissions calculations, pollution control assessments, permit applications as well as compliance monitoring for air quality and marine mammal protection programmes. Polarled pipeline, Norwegian North SeaRamboll is designing the 481km offshore Polarled pipeline, which will connect new fields in the Norwegian Sea with existing infrastructure securing future energy supply to Europe. The project sets a world record for deep water installation of a 36” pipeline. Our innovative solutions for multiple, longer free spans of the pipeline will save the client money by circumventing the need for costly installations of rock support at the seabed.

Harpa Concert Hall, Reykyavik, IcelandHarpa was named the best building of the year 2011 by the leading Swedish magazine for Nordic architecture and design, FORM. In 2013 it won Europe’s most prestigious architectural award, the Mies van der Rohe award. The spectacular shape of the building was made possible because engineering and architectural disciplines were designed in a 3D model – the world’s largest at that time. The model resulted in saved time and money, fewer misunderstandings and the freedom to design a unique landmark, which now has become Iceland’s new attraction. Ramboll was responsible for all engineering design.

KEY MESSAGES Ramboll is among the top 10 buildings designers in the world

(source: ENR 2016). Due to our Nordic heritage, we have been designing energy

efficient buildings for decades and today, buildings in the Nordics fulfil stricter demands than anywhere else in the world.

We challenge assumptions in the interest of creating more practical, sustainable and economic designs.

We work as independent consultants in an open, transparent way and engage various stakeholders in close dialogue about our projects.

Our comprehensive multidisciplinary service covers all aspects of building engineering, architecture, design and consultancy. We are internationally renowned for our structural, mechanical and electrical technical expertise.

We work in a wide range of sectors, including healthcare/pharma, airports, arts & culture, hotels, retail, education, sports and residential buildings.

We design more than 10 million square meters of buildings every year. This covers approx. 10,000 separate buildings projects of varying size.

We hold the industry’s top certifications within sustainable design and cover approx. 10 systems, incl. DGNB, LEAD and BREEAM.

Through extensive training and experience of accommodating stringent government regulations, we are leaders in Building Information Modelling (BIM). We combine this expertise with advanced analytical techniques to mitigate potential problems and optimise building designs before construction starts.

Ramboll’s pioneering ‘Innovation Design’ service draws on multidisciplinary specialists and the latest parametric models, digital simulations and algorithms to address industry demands for increasingly complex geometric forms, improved performance, and reduced timeframes and costs.

WHO WE ARE We are engineers, scientists and consultants who believe in the importance of sustainable design and its power to create value and improve the liveability for the end-user.

Our design philosophy is to always make room for the human experience. Ultimately, we measure our success by how well people and communities are served by what we have done. By applying our “Liveable Buildings” concept, we integrate engineering, design, architectural, and consultancy services to balance the cultural, social and physical values of buildings. This enhances quality of life for users whilst improving financial viability for developers and owners.

At its best, good design can regenerate communities, protect natural environments, and connect people across vast distances; it can provide new energy solutions and create buildings that people are happy to be in. Good design is robust and long-lasting.

We share this design approach with the world’s leading architects and developers – with whom we regularly collaborate, often as a preferred partner.

STRATEGIC PRIORITIES 2017-2020 Develop and dominate our home markets by strengthening our

the UK – while maintaining our strong positions in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway.

Build on our existing presence in India and the Middle East. Expand internationally by developing world class competencies

in selected sectors. HOW WE WORKWe take a fully integrated multidisciplinary approach to our work. Specialised teams are assembled from across the entire Ramboll group on a project-by-project basis, with regular staff rotation across the company to ensure that the appropriate expertise is employed on each individual project.

As part of our approach, we exercise best practices within project management. We communicate technical information clearly, both within our own teams and to clients and stakeholders, to facilitate effective decision making.

We have a genuine passion for engineering, and we apply the same rigour and enthusiasm to the design of a waste water management facility as we do to a single facade connection detail.

In Buildings, we use the term ‘client partnerships’ to describe the more than 85% of our clients that are long-term, repeat-clients.

Our goal is to create client partnerships on every project we undertake. We do this by prioritising relationship building from the outset of every project. Through close dialogue, we develop a profound understanding of our clients, the way they work, their vision, and their preferences.

SIGNATURE PROJECTS WITHIN TRANSPORT

Fehmarnbelt tunnel link, Denmark/GermanyThe world’s longest immersed road and rail tunnel, the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link, will connect Scandinavia and Central Europe and provide a world record-breaking shortcut to growth in Europe. The immersed tunnel is a study in innovative thinking, as it challenges existing tunnel building standards. The length of the tunnel will be approximately 18 km from tunnel mouth to tunnel mouth. Ramboll is the main consultant for the owner, Femern A/S, for all the project phases.

Gateway Asia, PhilippinesRamboll is developing a large-scale transport plan for Manila Bay that is focused on promoting growth and solving congestion issues in the world’s most densely populated city. The plan, which has been initiated by private developer, All-Asia Resources and Reclamation Corporation, will see the creation of interconnected air and seaport facilities with a rapid metro link to central Manila.

Queensferry Crossing, ScotlandQueensferry Crossing is Northern Europe’s largest bridge construction project in years and the world’s longest three-tower, cable-stayed bridge. The crossing is being built to expand the future transportation network and will safeguard a vital connection for the country. In the design process, the team presented a more cost-effective and more aesthetic solution for the deck of the cable-stayed bridge than the owner’s proposal. Through innovative solutions and close cooperation with the contractor, the team was able to provide tailored solutions that eased the pricing process for the entire project.

Nordhavn, DenmarkRamboll is overall consultant for Scandinavia’s largest city development project in the Copenhagen district of Nordhavn. Current projects include the 3km long road link “Nordhavnsvej”, the new road tunnel “Nordhavnstunnellen”, and the Nordhavn Metro Extension. Nordhavn has been designed as a “5-minute city” making it possible to reach shops, institutions, work places, and public transport within 5 minutes’ walk from any point in the district. It will be easier to walk, cycle and use public transport than to drive a car, which contributes to liveability and the ambition for the district to be carbon neutral.

HOW WE WORKOur services bring together expertise within engineering, design and management consulting to provide our clients with qualified support at every stage of the value chain – from strategy development through planning to detailed design and the execution phase. We help ensure that ambitions for maximizing urban liveability and resilience are realised.

We recognise that there is no ‘one size fits all’ solution to creating liveability and addressing global challenges such as climate change and rapid urbanisation. Even though urban challenges are universal, differences in physical conditions, culture, and priorities dictate that solutions must be tailored to ensure local ownership and long-term success.

We understand that successful urban planning ultimately depends on a holistic and integrated approach to the environmental, social, economic, and physical aspects of a city - rather than treating each element of the urban environment, such as water or transport infrastructure, in isolation.

To ensure our status as independent consultants, we work in an open, transparent way. Our activities are free of any third party or political interests and are based on integrity, honesty and trust.

We understand how to achieve urban liveability and have a proven track record of implemented and built cases from across the world.

Ramboll has been society consultant to the cities of Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm and Helsinki over several decades. We have significantly contributed to Copenhagen’s position as the most liveable city in the world (Copenhagen topped Monocle’s 2014 “Most Liveable Cities Index”).

Our client base primarily comprises city authorities and private developers. In addition to the Nordic capital cities, we have worked with planning and urban design in some of the world’s largest and most complex cities, including Singapore, Tianjin, Istanbul, London, Berlin, San Francisco, New York, Fujairah, and Jeddah. Our projects range from designing cycle lanes to city-wide urban development masterplans.

SIGNATURE PROJECTS WITHIN WATERDeveloping a Cloudburst Resiliency Planning Study for NYC DEPIn order to assess the potential of addressing intense rainfall through integrated planning using mainly blue-green infrastructure, Ramboll Water has conducted a Cloudburst Resiliency Planning Study on behalf of NYC Department of Environmental Protection. The project, which was carried out in close collaboration between Ramboll Water and Ramboll Management Consulting, also included the design of a pilot project in South-Eastern Queens. This shows how an affordable housing project, two schools and a university may all benefit from a combined cloudburst mitigation and urban planning project.

Enabling Skellefteå Municipality to implement an innovative water treatment plant In Skellefteå, Sweden, Ramboll Water was commissioned as lead consultant on a new water treatment plant that treats the water with artificial groundwater recharge followed by oxidation, filtration and disinfection to ensure high drinking water quality. The project is the largest of its kind in Sweden, and the aim is to simplify the production of drinking water and improve delivery reliability. The new water supply system will also reduce the use of chemicals and provide a better work environment for the employees in the municipality.

Assisting the Public Utilities Board in Singapore by improving liveability and ecology in Bishan- ang Mo Kio Park In 2006 the 'Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters' Programme (ABC Waters), was introduced in Singapore. The purpose was to transform the country’s water bodies beyond their functions of drainage and water supply into lakes with new spaces for recreation. The Bishan park project is one of the flagship projects under this programme. The park was due for major refurbishment and the Kallang River in the form of a concrete channel along the park edges was also due for upgrading to cater for increased rainwater runoff from the catchment due to urbanisation. Water (Ramboll Studio Dreiseitl) designed a comprehensive project where a 2.7 km long straight concrete drainage channel has been restored into a sinuous, natural river and sixty-two hectares of park space has been redesigned to accommodate the dynamic process of a river system including fluctuating water levels, while providing maximum benefit for park users.

Establishing a central wastewater treatment plant in Tampere, FinlandThe wastewater treatment capacity and efficiency have to be increased in Tampere region due to significant population growth. Accordingly, it has been decided to establish a central wastewater treatment plant with Ramboll as consultant. The main parts of the new biological water & wastewater treatment plant are constructed underground to minimise impacts on residential and recreational areas, and the effects on the city’s central water basin will decrease due to more efficient organics.

Treating the wastewater for a global pharmaceutical firm, USRamboll provides technical support within wastewater treatment to a global network of 70 manufacturing facilities for one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical firms. The project includes assessment of existing treatment plants, design reviews for new treatment plants and ongoing technical support for operations and compliance.

Science benefits homes, USOur scientists worked with US builders to resolve issues related to odours and damaging corrosive effects on copper and silver from certain drywall from China. We identified the gases involved, discovered the chemical reactions producing them and were the first to present this phenomenon to the US Environmental Protection Agency and US Consumer Product Safety Commission. Our discoveries also included the progressive nature of the related corrosion, which is a critical factor in determining successful remedies. We have overseen the replacement of drywall and repairs to over 2500 homes.

Improving air quality, Hong KongIn response to rapid urbanisation and explosive economic growth in the Pearl River Delta region, the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department (EPD) retained us to upgrade an air quality modelling system that allows EPD to study the complex relationships among factors that influence Hong Kong air quality. We developed a comprehensive atmospheric modelling system for EDP to use in analysing emissions and meteorological and air quality data, and in forecasting regional air quality.

Reconstructing workplace exposures, AsiaFor a global electronics industry client, we completed a rigorous, quantitative exposure reconstruction for workers who had developed certain diseases during their employment at several semiconductor facilities in Asia. Our exposure reconstruction confirmed findings by the occupational agencies that the diseases were unrelated to exposures at the client’s facilities.

Sakhalin II Phase 2, Russia We serve as the Independent Environmental and Social Consultant working on behalf of lenders to this multi-billion dollar oil and gas development. Comprised of offshore platforms, pipelines, an oil export terminal and a two-train liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant, the project has attracted significant nongovernmental organization (NGO) attention, particularly in relation to river crossings, resettlement and impacts on the endangered Western Gray Whale. In response to these sensitivities, we have worked closely with lenders to review ESIAs and management plans and to support the lenders in the negotiation of environmental and social elements of loan documentation.

HOW WE WORKThe projects that we carry out for our clients typically provide the overall societal benefits of securing the supply of energy, reducing climate impact, improving energy efficiency and countering resource scarcity.

For our clients, working with Ramboll means that they will benefit from our long-term experience and know-how, and together we can transform complex challenges into solutions that are future proof, energy efficient, cost effective and practical. We seek long-term relationships with our clients and have worked for some of them for more than 30 years.

We work both as strategic advisors and are deeply involved in the implementation phase of our projects, drawing on our hands-on experience from the operation and maintenance of energy facilities.

We place a strong focus on optimising performance and production, integrating environmental and safety interests, and reducing costs in all phases of our projects, from capital to operation and maintenance costs. We use state-of-the-art technology, such as 3D scanning and survey, to reduce costs and optimise design for lifetime extensions, modifications etc.

When working outside Scandinavia, we often use Nordic best practice solutions as inspiration, while considering the local factors applying to the project in question. We function as a sparring partner with strong knowledge, integrity and opinions, who is never afraid to challenge conceptions and assumptions to reach the best solution.

We are independent of suppliers.

SPIC Binhai North Phase 2 Offshore Wind Farm, ChinaRamboll is, as the first non-Chinese company, designing one of China’s largest offshore wind farms consisting of 100 turbines with a capacity of 400 megawatts, which corresponds to the total energy consumption of 350,000 households. The project is a continuation of phase 1 in which Ramboll was the head designer of the turbine foundations.

Amager Bakke Waste-to-Energy Facility, DenmarkAmager Bakke will be one of the most efficient waste-to-energy facilities in the world. As the Owner’s Engineer, Ramboll has assisted in the planning and implementation of the 560,000 tpa facility, which will produce 20% more energy per tonne of waste, compared to the existing plant. The facilitywill be fully integrated into the urban setting, surrounded by high-end flats, and will feature recreational facilities on the roof.

Copenhagen District Heating System, DenmarkCopenhagen’s district heating system is one of the largest in the world, and the associated networks supply low-carbon heat to a city of one million residents. For more than 30 years, Ramboll has been the Metropolitan Copenhagen Heating Transmission Company’s main consultant, providing consultancy assistance during all stages of the project from planning and design to operation and maintenance of the city-wide system.

EPCM partner on South Arne assetThe South Arne asset operated by Hess Denmark, consists of some 30 wells. For a decade Ramboll has carried out several significant brownfield projects on the platform with constant focus on HSE, including a flare gas recovery system, which reduces the CO2-emissions. In 2010, Hess Denmark decided to expand their activities further, leading to the construction of two additional wellhead platforms, which produced first oil in 2014. Ramboll carried out this tie-in project with SEMCO Maritime, and today we hold a framework contract to provide end-to-end services and handle the full responsibility for design, procurement, installation, and construction projects at South Arne.

Detailed design for wellhead jacket in the Culzean field The Culzean oil field in the British North Sea is a new, yet undeveloped discovery. If successfully developed, Culzean has the potential to meet around 5% of the UK’s gas demand in 2020/21. The overall development concept consists of a wellhead platform (WHP), a central processing facility, and separate utilities and living quarters platform. Ramboll’s scope of work for key account Maersk Oil comprised the detailed design of the jacket substructure for the wellhead platform, associated piles and appurtenances, including sea-fastening and sea-transportation analyses, and the FEED for two additional jackets. Our comprehensive track record within jacket design will ensure the client a good solution.

Remnant Life Assessment study (RLA) for subsea pipelines in Zakum oil fieldZADCO, who is the operator of the Zakum field on behalf of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and other shareholders of the joint venture, has assigned a RLA study for 15 of its pipelines that could provide suggestions for maintenance and potential replacement of equipment. Lifetime extension of ageing structures requires major attention to details and extremely accurate calculations able to produce reliable solutions. Consequently, Ramboll provided a separate report for each pipeline, covering evaluation records, justifications for design lifetime extension, and a plan for repairs and maintenance.

KEY MESSAGES With around 600 employees, we are one of the largest

management consultancies in the Nordics. We operate as a trusted private sector partner and hold a strong position in public sector development notably within social affairs, labour market policies, and employment.

Services within Stakeholder management, asset management, socio-economic analyses, sustainable procurement, and sustainable advisory services are among our most prominent strategic priorities.

We add value to clients and society by combining management consulting skills with technical expertise. In doing so, we can e.g. help unfold the socio-economic dimension of environmental assessments and infrastructure projects, or drive major transformation of energy sector clients.

Our Nordic legacy and holistic approach make us an obvious alternative to traditional American consultancies. This goes for clients as well as employees. We understand the democratic processes and the political environment on both local and central level. Also, our consultants cherish the facts that we are not partner driven, and that sound arguments outweigh managerial position.

We serve more than 40 ministries and some of the largest state-owned companies. Our private clients include top-10 Danish corporations, and we also advice NGOs and international organisations, incl. the European Commission.

Our ever-growing Survey practice provides the digital platform for measuring the quality of day-care institutions and schools in Denmark and Norway and as importantly the well-being of the children. On top of the customer surveys and employee satisfaction surveys, the number of surveys amount to 10 million a year.

WHO WE ARERamboll Management Consulting is an international consulting practice based on strong Nordic values. We deliver management consulting services within strategy and operations, customer and market, leadership and HR, business technology, city and society development, and policy advice and evaluation to promote sustainable change for people and society. We facilitate better decision-making, outstanding business solutions, and individual performance.

Our hallmark consists of research, evaluation, and analysis within these sectors: social affairs, labour market policies, and employment. Also, we have a long history of assisting the public sector digitalising its processes and communications – both internally and towards the citizens.

The link to academia has long been a trademark of ours. As a result, we do not only consume knowledge – we also produce. We have penned numerous books, published peer-review articles, and foster the debate on policy implementation or New Public Management 2.0. In Denmark and Norway, we are widely known for our yearly reports on IT in Practice.

HOW WE WORKIn Ramboll Management Consulting, we work across disciplines, uniting our strong academic tradition and widespread sector insight with technical domains to understand the complex environments that our clients navigate in order to deliver long-term solutions.

With scarce economic resources and demographic changes in the population, the daily struggle to secure competitiveness, increase productivity and to deliver measurable results within core areas, now applies to both the public and private sector. We help our clients in this struggle. Making the most of taxpayer’s money in the city of Stockholm by making the city’s operating models more effective, and developing an in-depth “go-to-market” strategy for a global manufacturer are just two examples. Also, our clients rely on us to deliver measurable results, such as helping a Danish municipality lower its sickness related absence by 27%, creating savings of 1.8 million EUR.

The services in Ramboll Management Consulting are diverse but combinable. We provide the strategic and analytical ground work, the data-driven insights, as well as the required change management processes. As a result, our clients receive our services in many ways; from PowerPoint presentations made for executive decision making, extensive reports and evaluations, to data-packed surveys, training and capacity building, group processes, and one-on-one sparring.

The consultancy industry is often characterised by its ‘lone wolves’. In Ramboll Management Consulting, however, we team up. We believe that the best solutions are designed by teams of cooperating consultants.

SIGNATURE PROJECTS IN RAMBOLL IN DENMARK:

Maersk Tower, Copenhagen University’s Panum ComplexThe 75m tall Maersk Tower is the new landmark of Copenhagen University's Panum Complex. The 15-story research building is in many ways out of the ordinary. Requirements for both flexibility and security have resulted in innovative solutions. 3,000 radiators are built into the window frames and window panels meet the highest hygiene requirements for laboratories. The facade is clad with 3,300 copper shutters that give the building a relief-like expression. A third of the shutters move according to the sunlight, thus changing the expression of the facade during the day but also reducing energy consumption by shielding off the sun's heat. The building is among the first in Denmark with an advanced fire safety system with electronic fire panels consisting of two 55’ touch screens, which makes it easy and quick to grasp all fire installations. The building was inaugurated in January 2017. Ramboll has provided all engineering services for the 42,700 m2 building.

Amager Bakke Waste-to-Energy Facility, CopenhagenAmager Bakke will be one of the most efficient waste-to-energy facilities in the world. As the Owner’s Engineer, Ramboll has assisted in the planning and implementation of the 560,000 tpa facility, which will produce 20% more energy per tonne of waste, compared to the existing plant. The facility will be fully integrated into the urban setting, surrounded by high-end flats, and will feature recreational facilities on the roof.

The Soul of NørrebroThe Soul of Nørrebro is an innovative and visionary climate adaptation project in Copenhagen with objectives such as redirecting rainwater from cloudbursts, purifying the water running into the adjacent Peblinge City Lake, and creating new, attractive and more liveable urban spaces.

The project will contribute to the development of a whole new kind of urban space from Peblinge Lake, along Korsgade Street to the nearby Hans Tavsens Park. It was designed in a close dialogue with the area’s users and residents and in 2016, it was awarded 1st prize in the 'Nordic Built Cities Challenges' arranged by Nordic Innovation (an organisation under Nordic Council of Ministers).

Nordhavn, CopenhagenNordhavn is Scandinavia’s largest city development project and rethinks how ways of living can be combined with sustainable energy, environment, traffic and cityscape solutions. During the next 50

Page 62: download.ramboll-environ.comdownload.ramboll-environ.com/ramboll/Messaging-platform... · Web viewThe new library will be a modern and exuberant addition to the Töölönlahti bay’s

years, the area is to be extended to accommodate 40,000 inhabitants and 40,000 workplaces. Currently we are working on significant projects such as the 3km long road link “Nordhavnsvej”, the new road tunnel “Nordhavnstunnellen”, the Nordhavn Metro Extension as well as urban development projects in the Aarhusgade and Sundmolen areas, and the establishment of a new artificial island, Kronløb Island.

Brain/Heart IT system, DenmarkThis IT system – designed and developed by Ramboll - measures and reports on the quality of day care institutions and primary schools. Through various inputs such as self-assessments, tests and satisfaction surveys, a wide variety of dashboards and reports are generated. This helps enable constructive dialogue between parents and caregivers on a child’s social, personal, or linguistic skills, or between day care leader and administrative bodies on the collective and comparative pedagogical progress made by the institution. The system is unique in the market as it allows administrative bodies to extract a range of management documents, such as quality reports, reports used for supervision and reports regarding the educational curriculum in both preschool and primary school institutions.

Fehmarnbelt tunnel link, Denmark/Germany The world’s longest immersed road and rail tunnel, the Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link, will connect Scandinavia and Central Europe and provide a world record-breaking shortcut to growth in Europe. The immersed tunnel is a study in innovative thinking, as it challenges existing tunnel building standards. The length of the tunnel will be approximately 18 km from tunnel mouth to tunnel mouth. Ramboll is the main consultant for the owner, Femern A/S, for all the project phases.

SIGNATURE PROJECTS IN RAMBOLL IN NORWAY

National Museum, OsloThe size, location and combined functionality of this new landmark will create a unique arena for Norway’s most extensive collections of art and will be one of the largest cultural buildings in Oslo. Through design and building information modelling (BIM), Ramboll is seeking to increase the profitability of the building for Statsbygg, maximise use of the space for tenants, as well as considerably reduce the building and operating costs.

New Holmestrand Railway StationRamboll is planning the world’s first station for high speed trains built inside a mountain at Holmestrand. This is the first time a railway station has been planned and built where high-speed trains can pass through at 250 km/h and passengers at the same time can stay at the platform in the same space as the passing trains. By realising this project, the city of Holmestrand will reclaim valuable land for the citizens and gain opportunities for future development, since the old train station and its railway route will be moved to reside inside the mountain. Ramboll has to solve challenges related to wind velocities, pressure/suction, acoustics and durability ratings among constructions, which have never been done before.

Polarled pipelineThe Polarled pipeline project comprises a 481km offshore pipeline. The pipeline will connect new fields in the Norwegian Sea with existing infrastructure securing future energy supply to Europe. Ramboll’s

extensive knowledge within subsea pipeline design will be instrumental in designing this unprecedented technical solution. Ramboll’s specialists have ensured a systematic optimisation of the amount of steel for the pipeline, and used state-of-the-art software for fatigue analysis and developed tailored models for 3D analyses, which will reduce the overall costs of the project. Our innovative solutions for multiple, longer free spans of the pipeline will save the client money by circumventing the need for costly installations of rock support on the seabed.

Report on biofuel production for civil aviationRamboll has conducted a report on behalf of National Aviation Authorities, Avinor, on the possibility of producing biofuel for civil aviation in Norway. According to the analysis, it is technically and economically feasible to facilitate the production of renewable biofuel for aviation in Norway in 2020-25. This initiative will contribute to lower greenhouse gas emissions, both for the airline companies as well as for Norway as a nation. The project is an example of how our understanding of technology can help solve today’s environmental challenges if it is applied in the right way, which is exactly why Ramboll was selected.

E18 Grimstad-KristiansandNorway’s largest road project to date is helping to strengthen the connection to Europe via Kristiansand. This stretch of the motorway will be 38 kilometers long and it is estimated that between 9,000 and 30,000 cars will use the new road every day. Ramboll is responsible for 80 percent of the engineering. For those in local communities living along the existing road, building the new motorway away from populated areas will mean a reduction in the noise level and a safer environment allowing for normal neighbourhood activities. Ramboll advised the client in relation to the Norwegian construction rules, especially regarding those of the road authorities, and in this way empowered the client to penetrate the Norwegian market for giant road projects.

Norway Post, NorwayTo increase job satisfaction and customer satisfaction, Ramboll conducts an annual employee survey in Norway Post. Based on the result, we are now training the leaders to shift from problem-focused leadership style, to a more recognising and empowering leadership style. Preliminary result shows that 4 out of 5 employees are more satisfied, and one unit increased job satisfaction by 28% in just one year. About 500 employees in Norway post are involved.

Concept study for unmanned, minimum-facility platformThe current jacket-platform in Norwegian Tor field is expiring. But with reserves still to be produced, it was decided to develop a new, combined wellhead and processing facility. A platform concept base case had already been proposed, and it became Ramboll’s challenge to design a radically simpler alternative based on lower reservoir potential. Ramboll went for an unmanned, minimalistic and CAPEX effective topsides that requires little maintenance while still adhering to all requirements. Based on our extensive experience with minimum topsides, Ramboll was able to propose two concepts providing the client Total and operator ConocoPhillips the best decision basis.

SIGNATURE PROJECTS WITHIN MIDDLE EAST AND ASIA

Jeddah Environmental and Social Master Plan, Saudi ArabiaRamboll is developing an Environment and Social Master Plan to accommodate rapid urbanisation in Saudi Arabia’s second largest city. The goal is for Jeddah to become a model city of environmental and social improvement by 2030, and thus significantly improve the inhabitants living conditions. Ramboll’s environmental master plan provides a baseline of the current conditions but also includes information on corrective actions and future initiatives to achieve sustainable development – including cost/benefit analyses of various alternatives.

Msheireb Downtown Doha Phase 4, QatarThe project used sustainability and heritage to lead innovation in urban living in Qatar’s capital city that includes a commercial office space, medical office facilities, residential apartments, pedestrian retail, hotel and five to six levels of dedicated and public basement level parking. Ramboll has been appointed to undertake the complete MEP and structural engineering design services for all superblocks and associated basement levels. The engineering design requirements provided energy efficiency and water conservation at the forefront of the system selection processes. The project also incorporated a district cooling plant providing chilled water for the air conditioning system requirements of the full development.

Damac Heights, Dubai UAETwo undulating, curved buildings on a small plot presented challenges for all our disciplines. The eye-catching superstructure is curved at the base and tip: narrowing at both ends like a banana. We are the lead consultants on this project to construct a supertall residential tower directly on Dubai Marina, just 15 metres from the quay wall. The frame has concrete on the lower levels, with steel framed storeys above — a combination that meets both structural and budgetary requirements. As a further aesthetic feature, a tall steel mast is fixed to the highest point of the building. Given the structural implications of the innovative architectural form, we implemented an unusually rigorous programme of modelling and peer review to test the building’s behaviour now and in the future.

Doha Metro Green Line Underground, QatarRamboll has been appointed by PORR, Saudi Binladin and HBK JV for the provision of Design Verification Engineer (DVE) services for the design of Green Line Underground. headquarters has two basements, four parking levels and 14 typical floors.

Remnant Life Assessment study (RLA) for subsea pipelines in Zakum oil fieldZADCO, who is the operator of the Zakum field on behalf of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and other shareholders of the joint venture, has assigned an RLA study for 15 of its pipelines that could provide suggestions for maintenance and potential replacement of equipment. Lifetime extension of ageing structures requires major attention to details and extremely accurate calculations able to produce reliable solutions. Consequently, Ramboll provided a separate report for each pipeline, covering evaluation records, justifications for design lifetime extension, and a plan for repairs and maintenance.

District cooling in Makkah, Kingdom of Saudi ArabiaThe King Abdul Aziz Road Project is a new mix-use development meant to house 120,000 residents. The project includes two roads, a metro line, a grand mosque and over 200 plots for houses along a new pedestrian pathway running from the city outskirts to the Grand Holy Mosque. The district cooling system that will ensure a comfortable journey through Makkah for the millions of pilgrims during Hajj will be one of the largest in the world. Ramboll is carrying out preliminary studies, conceptual design and procurement of the system.

Improving liveability in one of Singapore's largest parksIn 2006 the "Active, Beautiful, Clean Waters" Programme (ABC Waters), was introduced in Singapore.

Helping Asian megacities adapt to climate changesThe Asia Pacific region is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions worldwide, and at the same time the region is increasingly exposed to the risks of climate change. Hence, substantial investments are needed to reduce carbon emissions and enhance resilience in the region's largest urban areas. In order to invest efficiently in reducing carbon emissions and increasing resilience in the fast-growing urban areas in the region, Asian Development Bank has engaged Ramboll to commission a comprehensive study. The study should give an overview of relevant options within urban infrastructure development along with identification of associated costs and benefits in cities with current populations of 750,000 or more.

RAMBOLL IN NORTH AMERICA 86

Dartmouth College initiated a study to convert the college’s entire aging steam-based heating system to a carbon neutral and modern hot water system. Ramboll introduced a number of innovative technologies to the energy system that will ensure its sustainability, resilience and reliability for many years including advanced biomass cogeneration to reduce emissions and produce electricity for own consumption, a modern thermal day-to-day cold and hot water storage system to reduce heating and electric peaks (thus reducing investment costs), increased efficiency through reducing supply temperatures, Danish state-of-the-art pre-insulated pipe technology, innovative reuse of excess heat from the cooling production during summer, seasonal storage technology to displace fuel to peaking boilers, and a district cooling system with central production to replace the local chillers. The state-of-the-art energy supply and distribution system designed by Ramboll will help the client meet their goals to reduce dependency on fossil fuels and improve efficiency and reliability in the district energy system, all while reducing life cycle costs.

Phytoremediation restores groundwater at former industrial siteWhen the groundwater remedy initially selected for an area beneath a former industrial facility in Southern California proved infeasible, we revisited and re-engineered the contingency remedy of phytoremediation. Together with external phytoremediation specialists, we conducted a pilot growth study to identify trees that could tolerate the arid conditions and thrive in salty site soils. To help the more than 300 trees establish, a slow-release fertiliser and mycorrhizal inoculants were applied to the root zone during planting. A solar-controlled, gravity-fed drip irrigation system provided water to each tree, using remediated groundwater from another area of the site. A proprietary bacterial endophyte that further degrades contaminants once inside the trees, thus also enhancing overall tree growth was also used. Rethinking the approach netted other benefits: lower implementation costs, reduced long-term operation and maintenance, expanded/enhanced wildlife habitat, water reuse, and an overall “greener” remediation solution.

Chicago LakesideChicago is taking urban development in the US in a new direction and the Chicago Lakeside project is based on the assumption that future generations will want to live in a city focused on liveability and sustainability. Ramboll has proposed a design concept for sustainable energy, water management and waste management.
