3.3 Website development progress

Sandpit to present an overview of progress made in the development of the Ripple Effect website.

FOR DISCUSSION & FEEDBACK:

Time will be allocated for discussion and feedback.

3.4 Digital Storytelling Workshop

The workshop is being run as a way to assist people who may not have had an opportunity to tell their story of their experience of suicide in a fun and creative way. This is anticipated to have personal therapeutic benefit for participants as well as potentially provide content for the Ripple Effect website.

For more explanation of what digital storytelling is visit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKZiXR5qUlQ There is also some more detailed explanation at TedxTalks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhJDUIQ9EzY

When: February 3rd-5th, 2016Where: Swinburne University, Hawthorn, VictoriaPurpose: To provide participants with an opportunity to create their own digital story—using multimedia such as photos, video footage, items that can be photographed, music and voice over—about their personal experience of suicide. The workshop will be professionally facilitated by Swinburne staff and attended by National Centre for Farmer Health staff. At the end of the workshop, participants will have a completed digital story to take away with them. Should participants wish to, this story can also be shared as part of the Ripple Effect website. What participants need to bring: Photos, postcards, memorials, drawings, video footage, objects that hold significant meaning that can be photographed or scanned—all depending on the story they would like to tell.Accommodation: Bed and breakfast accommodation for participants will be provided at the CWA B&B at 3 Lansell Road, Toorak for the nights of Tuesday 2nd, Wednesday 3rd and Thursday 4th.Travel: Travel costs will be supported on an individual needs basis. Please let us know how we can help.

FOR ACTION: All members to consider people in their own networks who may wish to participate. Urgency required given the short lead-time for this event and the limitations on numbers.

3.5 Community engagement

The Ripple Effect is continuing to generate significant community interest and support with offers of financial donations and time being expressed.

FOR INFORMATION:

4. The next steps for the Ripple Effect Steering Group

4.1 Prioritise recruitment of Community ChampionsAchieving successful levels of participation in the Ripple Effect will require a whole of community effort. In addition to our extensive partner networks, we will be involving community members who we know have an interest in farmer health and wellbeing—as well as valuable community networks—to assist in spreading the word about the Ripple Effect. These ‘Community Champions’ will be invited to take part in an online training session about the Ripple Effect before dissemination the information through their communities. Recruitment of ‘Community Champions’ will take place in Feb-April 2016. Webinar training will take place in April-May 2016.

We have only received a small number of potential contacts for ‘Community Champions’ from the Steering Group to date.

FOR ACTION: Maria, Martin, Tristan, Alison F, Karen, Katrina, Alison K:To prioritise recruitment of community champions and forward contact details to Alison K. Please aim for a national spread of networks with varied interests in order to capture as wide a network as possible. We expect a minimum of 10 recruits per person, but would like 15-20 per person if possible.
