You are to choose one of the two “posters” of School of Fish, drawn by John Atkinson. Each has 15 drawings of fish that are done in the style of the artist that is labelled below each of the fish images.

TASK:

You are to research each of the 15 artists on that poster, choose an image of a piece of art done by each of those artists which help to explain Atkinson’s drawing. You need to:

print out that image, attach that image to the worksheet in the box provided, then add the name of the artist, the title of the work, the web site where you found that image, the date of the work, the style of the art (for example: abstract expressionism), where this art work is housed/ hung/displayed, and an explanation of why John Atkinson chose the design he did to represent each of

these artists.

When you answer the question about what John Atkinson used as the inspiration, you need to look at

the images, the style, and the elements: the colours, lines, and shapes, that the artists typically use in their

work.

In other words, how do we recognize that this fish is one that the artist could have done.

Put in the name of the artist, and the word “artist” and look at the images when you search for that artist.

Be careful that the art work you choose is actually done by that artist. Not all the images will have been done by the artist you have searched. Some of the work will be done by people who have copied their style.

The second poster has a few female artists, and a little more diversity in cultural background.

The next pages have the handout for you to use to paste in your images. You can do this on the computer if you want to cut and paste directly into this handout, or you can print them out and cut and paste.
