The Kum-Ba-Ya site was leased by Kentucky Christian Missionary Society in June, 1955 for 19 years from the Tennessee Valley Authority. The first Chi-Rho Camp was in 1956 using tents. In the 1957 a dining hall, two bath-houses and a water system were constructed. Housing for summer camp and conference was in “hogans” consisting of wooden platforms, metal rod frame and canvas. Facilities were not winterized, but the kitchen and dining area had heaters.

See you at sailing camp.A typical day at Sailing Camp. After breakfast, we have our first sailing instruction from a video, then each sailor receives his "orders for the day," which include assignment on which sail boat and questions for research for the evening class. If the winds are favorable, we sail all day with lunch aboard a boat and swimming, then a sail back to camp. After supper, we gather for the reports from our assignments, then the evening opens up skill tables where we can paint, put together puzzles, sail via computer, tie knots, learning navigation, looking at the star

What is Sailing Camp all about?A camp where we learn to sail the wind and live a life in the Divine Spirit. The word "wind" is the same Hebrew word for "breath," and "spirit." So in some sense, we learn about God as we learn to sail the wind. Sailing Camp is a hands on learning experience––learning from the water and wind, learning from a boat and crew, learning to trust our own selves in crewing a sail boat on Kentucky Lake. This year we have a Sailing Staff who have returned each year. Why? Because we love to sail.

We have two sailing events each year. CYF Sailing is June 2-7 with Captain Jerry Johns and Chi Rho Sailing with

Captain Jim McLean is June 17-21. Look for info on a Water Weekend for Adults!

All Y’all Family CampSeptember 20-22

As the name implies, everyone is invited to All Y’all Retreat. Everyone. Singles and families ... old, young and in between ... folks beyond our church, folks beyond our denomination, folks beyond our faith ... everyone is invited, so please invite everyone. Over our weekend together at Camp Kum-Ba-Ya, we’ll explore—in study and practice—what God does with tables that are open to all (y’all). And we’ll have a lot of fun. Bring your tetherball shoes. Bring your kayaks (we have about 10 canoes). Bring your craft projects, your board games, your jigsaw puzzles, your musical instruments, your cameras, your marshmallow skewers ... whatever to share. Most importantly, bring your family, friends and acquaintances, and let’s see what God does with our weekend away together.
