I’m Not Just Gifted

We have continued this curriculum.

We have finished Unit 2: Don’t Forget About Emotional Intelligence. This unit focused on self-awareness, managing emotions, and conflict resolution. The lessons focus on the idea of increasing self-awareness through self-evaluation, recognizing emotions, and mindfulness. Some lessons involved understanding emotions, perspective taking, and developing emotional awareness and balance. Conflict resolution included talking about anger management and problem solving.

The Hour of CodeThe Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities but expanding to all sorts of community efforts. This grassroots campaign is supported by over 400 partners and 200,000 educators worldwide. The Hour of Code takes place each year during Computer Science Education Week. The 2016 Computer Science Education Week was December 5-11 and all RISE students participated during their RISE time. Computer Science Education Week is held annually in recognition of the birthday of computing pioneer Grace Murray Hopper (December 9, 1906). Every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path.

In January, we will be starting a new unit-Cryptozoology-A note is attached with details about this unit.

Unless you try to do something beyond what you have already mastered, you will never grow.

LatinStudents are continuing to learn Latin through the Minimus curriculum. We have been practicing endings for verbs and adjectives. In Latin, all nouns are feminine or masculine and the adjective must match the noun. Verb endings change based upon who is talking and who they are talking about or to.
