Bank Holiday

May Day marks its beginning. May Day celebrations have been carried out in England for over 2000 years. The Romans celebrated the festival of Flora, goddess of fruit and flowers, which marked the beginning of summer. It was held annually from April 28th to May 3rd.

Today is a Bank Holiday in the UK. It is usually celebrated on the first Monday in May and is believed to have started with the Romans celebrating the beginning of Summer. This year the holiday has been moved to Friday as it is the 75th anniversary of V.E. Day. If you want to do any extra work …. see if you can find out what V.E. day was and why it is so important (clue: it’s something to do with the 2nd World War)
