Independent Reading Assignment:

Excerpt from Monster “Moody: He wouldn’t have been able to breathe. Petrocelli: You mean he literally drowned in his own blood? Reaction shot: Steve catches his breath sharply. Reaction shot: King has head tilted to one side, seemingly without a care.”

This short scene tells the reader quite a bit about both the characters of Steve Harmon and James King. What is being discussed? Consider how they react differently to the information presented. Which reaction shows shock and concern? Which reaction shows ambivalence? The author is providing us with indirect characterization of these two men, and the reader can infer judgements because of it.

Your Task: Find a line or two of indirect characterization for TWO characters in your book. Unpack what elements of the show characterization, then explain how that character can be judged.
