Maths ActivityThis week we’d like you to practise halving and doubling. If you double a number, you get an identical amount. Halving is the opposite. If you halve a number, you are splitting group into 2 equal parts. The aim is to be able to recall double or half of a number as fast you can.

Once you know the double or half of a number, make some number cards (0 to 10 or 0 to 20 if you’d like a challenge) and see how quickly you can say the half or double.

Weekly science:

We hope you enjoyed planting your cress. Has it grown yet?

When doubling a number you can use a mirror to help. Place objects in front of the mirror and you will see an identical group. Count all the objects in both groups and you will find the double. Your 2 times table will be able to help you.

To half a number you can use a paper plate with a line down the middle. Halve your group of objects by sharing between the 2 sides.

Cress is a plant that we are able to eat. Lots of our food is made from plants. Have a look at the food in your house. Can you sort it into these two groups?

Made from Plants Not Made from Plants

Remember, plants are anything that grows in earth and has leaves, a stem and roots. Think carefully and check ingredients before deciding which group the food belongs to!

You could even do it practically.

Weekly short writing task:

My sentence has been jumbled up. Write the words out on cards like I have and see if you can put it in the right order. To check to see if you have it right, read it and it should make sense.

Write the sentence down when you have it in the right order.

Challenge

Make an ‘and’ card. Can you use that sticky word to make your sentence longer?

Story writing task:

We would like you to write a story including these 3 pictures.

You could draw a story mountain like we do in class to help you organise your ideas.

Weekly mindfulness activity:When we feel anxious or worried our bodies act differently than normal. Sometimes we take shorter and smaller breaths that can make us feel worse.Focussing on breathing can be a great way to cope feelings of worry, stress or anger. This week we would like you to learn some simple breathing techniques that will help you to cope in stressful situations. The video below will show you how to breath using the palm of your hand to help.https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=88&v=DSgOW879jjA&feature=emb_logo

Tracing the patterns of different shapes can help us to take longer, deeper breaths. This will make us feel better. You could also blow bubbles to make it more fun, or you could get creative and make a breathing wand!

Weekly whole school activities:

Come up with a list of your five things in your life that you are grateful for accompanied by a small explanation as to why you have chosen each of these things.

You can do this in different ways. It would also be nice to get other members of your family involved.
