Suggested level: Pre-IntermediateLearning Outcomes:SWBAT:– reproduce vocabulary related to the media– decipher between types of the media– talk about their favourite TV programme– talk about the media in Britain SWD: – creative writing skills (designing a poster)– communicative skills– listening skills

Bring a variety of newspapers to class. After having introduced different types of newspapers (quality vs. popular vs. local), ask your students (in groups or in pairs) to classify the newspapers you have brought.

Designing a poster – group work/creative writing Groups of 5. Time – 5 minMaterials: colour markers, 2xA2 sheets of paperRoles:Secretary – notes everything down.Designer – makes the poster look attractive.Board of Creative Directors – generate smart ideas.Proof Reader – checks for mistakes.Presenter – presents the poster when it’s finished. When writing down the information, use the plan:

• Name of the programme• Type• When is it on?• Age group (Who is it mostly watched by?)• Characteristics

If you don’t have the benefit of the Internet in class, download the video from You Tube to your laptop and show it in class.

Assess your students’ achievements during the lesson with help of an Achievement Chart with the list of your students’ names, using the scale: a golden star sticker next to the student’s name for a perfect answer, a silver star sticker for an answer with some minor mistakes and no star for a completely wrong answer. Make the chart big enough and put it on the board for all the students to see their progress during the lesson.Let them see it as a game, making the analogy with the charts on MTV: “Let’s see who will become the biggest star of today’s show” Get creative and make some certificates to reward the top three students.
