Week at a Glance

Homeroom Literacy: Students are reading a true story in the book, We Were There, Too, about a young girl working in a sweatshop during the Industrial Revolution. They are summarizing the circumstances of her life as a window into the changes Americans experienced during this period in history.

Students are researching and drafting the story for a graphic text biography of a significant historic figure.

Math: Students are modeling division with fractions. They are applying percentages to word problems.

Science : Students will be sharing the info-graphics they created to highlight how devices utilize wave technology.

Social Studies:Students are researching a delegate who served in the Constitutional Convention. After gaining this perspective, they will participate in a mock Convention.

Language and Literacy:Students are comparing and contrasting how information is presented in two formats of informational text; a graphic non-fiction text, and one text based selection. Students will then analyze how the use of graphics impacts the way the story is interpreted by the reader.

Supporting Your Child at Home:Many assignments require our students to conduct effective research. For example, they are writing graphic biographies, and the stories should be factual. Helping your child to locate and understand sources is important. A trip to the local library helps tremendously. You may also enjoy pointing out real world problems that apply percentages and division of fractions and solve them together.
