From the Desk of Mrs. Beth Atkins

Each student will need one egg carton that holds only a dozen eggs. We will be decorating these at school. Please do not decorate them at home. In addition, your child must provide 12 plastic filled eggs for our egg hunt. These eggs should include individually wrapped candy, small toys, or other small prizes. Please do not purchase the large eggs as they will not fit in the cartons. Please also be aware that if the temperature is very warm the day of the hunt, that chocolate will melt. Both eggs and cartons are due on April 1st. Please do not send them in before March 30th as we have limited space to store these items. Also, in the event of rain, egg hunts will be held inside the gym and the times will be determined by administration. An additional letter about our party and supplies needed will be coming home this week as well.

SpellingThis week we will be working words that contain the suffixes –ly and -fulRemember students who pass the pre-test will not be required to complete their spelling notebook for that week as well.

Independent Leader Award

This week’s student arrives to school on time each morning and is proactive by putting her things outside the classroom door before reporting to the cafeteria. She remembers to turn in her red folder in each day and brings her reading book back to school daily. She is always offering to help others and possesses many leadership qualities.Congratulations to Leslie Elmore!

What’s Happenin’ in 1st Grade?Reading: This week students will be reading “Henry & Mudge: Mrs. Hopper’s House”. It is extremely important that you read our story at home with your child and ask them comprehension questions about the text. Don’t forget to work on the items located in Literacy Corner as well as they are also included on our weekly reading test. Test on Friday.

Math: Students will be working with two digit subtraction that requires borrowing. Please continue to review two digit addition with regrouping with your child. There will be homework on Tuesday and Thursday. Be sure the check your child’s red folder for these items. Quiz on Friday.

Science: This week students will be discussing habitats.

Please remember that your child is responsible for checking their mailbox and placing newsletters and other items in their red folders. If you child doesn’t make it home with something, please ask them if they checked their mailbox.

Remember to check your child’s red folder each night!
