JRBA Quarterly Executive Board MeetingJuly 9, 2018

Moderator, Rev. Michael Khol, opened the JRBA Quarterly Executive Board meeting by enumerating several philosophical questions: “Which came first, the chicken or the egg?” “If a tree falls in the forest and there is no one there to hear it, did it make a noise?” Such questions are evident in a culture seeking to find answers. “Where did we come from?” “Why are we here?” “Where are we going?” In the Psalms we learn that God is everywhere and knows every hair on our head! In the beginning God created all things. We were created in His image. He created us for a specific purpose…for His pleasure. People are looking within for meaning, but we should all be looking to God. We wonder what will happen to us after we die. Psalm 119 speaks of God’s word, the covenant, and His statutes. We must not get lost in

philosophy or by looking within. Rather, we must look in God’s word and look up to Him. Read the word. Stop thinking and talking about these spiritual questions…just spend more time in His word and listening to God. Rev. Khol then led in prayer and called the meeting to order.

Frank Breault, Clerk, had the roll call of churches. There were 19 in attendance, representing 10 churches. The minutes of the last Executive Board Meeting were presented and approved. The minutes of the Spring Meeting were presented and approved. The Treasurer’s Quarterly Report was presented and approved. Total contributions = $12,779.67 (Regular Church Contributions, Individual Contribution, Rise Against Hunger, Bland Mission Team, Bland Ministry Center, and Spring Meeting Offering for HOPE). Total Disbursements = $18,303.55 (Including Mission Trip support, Rise Against Hunger, Baccalaureate expenses, Grace Inside Prison Ministry, Gideons International, DR Training for Rev. Moore, Spring offering for HOPE, Bland Ministry Center, Bland Mission Team, and Voice of Praise ). The Checking Account Balance stood at $29,214.98 on June 20, 2018. The Savings Account Balance stood at $4,220.38. The report was approved as presented.

The quarterly report for the John E. Mann, Sr. Benevolence Fund was presented and approved. One individual was provided one night’s lodging; four families were assisted with overdue electric bulls; and the yearly donation was made to the Buckingham Volunteer Fire Department. Total disbursements = $505.00. There were no contributions to the fund during the past quarter. The checking account balance on June 30, 2018, was $5,066.75.

Michael then gave his Moderator’s Report. He noted that Buckingham and Tar Wallet have recently lost their pastors. Rev. Jimmie Beale is now the Interim Pastor at Buckingham. He commented on the success of Rise Against Hunger, the Bland trip, the Spring Meeting, and Vacation Bible Schools being held in our churches. He also noted that it is good to see churches sharing materials for VBS and working together. He mentioned upcoming events for all of us to be thinking about and preparing for: Missions Blitz, upcoming Mission Trips, fall collection of hats, glove, coats and blankets for HOPE for Appalachia, the Small Church Conference in Appomattox on August 25 featuring Dr. Chuck Warnock, and the need for someone to serve as a nominee to the BGAV Mission Council.

Officers’ reports were then called for. Rev. Woody Moore, Disaster Relief Coordinator, gave a brief report on upcoming training events for Crisis Care Chaplains and encouraged pastors to get the training. He noted that he had been on the callout list for Disaster Relief to Maryland, but trainees were asked to stand down as they were not needed. He noted that there would also be training at the Annual BGAV Meeting in November for Feeding and Cleanup. Rev. Moore also thanked JRBA for their support of his recent Crisis Care Training.

Committee Reports presented:MISSIONS: Rev. Jimmy Dunn thanked everyone for their visits, calls, cards, and prayer during his recent illness. He thanked everyone for the fantastic support of our Rise Against Hunger event at which we packed over 32,000 meal to feed hungry people around the world. He expressed thanks for the great response to HOPE for Appalachia and encouraged us to do all we can to provide hats, gloves, coats, and blankets for the fall drive. He noted the upcoming mission trips and reminded everyone to pray for those going in Jesus name. He also reminded everyone that volunteers continue to be needed at the Blue Ridge Food Distributions on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month.JRBA MISSIONS BLITZ: Valeria Breault reminded everyone that our 2018 Missions Blitz will be held on Saturday, September 29. Ideas for projects are available upon request. She needs a contact name, email address, and phone number for each church – only a few have responded. We are hopeful that this will be a day of ministry above and beyond what our churches regularly do and that all churches will participate.COPIER/COMPUTER: The committee reported that a new computer has been purchased for the JRBA office and has been installed. Designated funds will be utilized for this expenditure and to purchase anti-virus software. Century Link will be upgrading the Internet service (previously approved) which will now include unlimited long distance. This contract is for two years. The new computer system and faster Internet should greatly enhance computer efficiency for JRBA. Thanks was expressed to Rev. Michael Khol for purchasing and installing the new computer. The committee also noted an increase to the cost of JRBA’s web hosting and domain name fee. This additional expense was approved by the Executive Board. FINANCE/STEWARDSHIP: Some new guidelines for the JRBA budget were presented for approval:

Reimbursement requests (for training, conferences, etc.) should be made to the Finance Committee at least 2 weeks prior to a quarterly Executive Board meeting. Reimbursements will not exceed $100/person/year and receipts must be presented. Expenditure items (other than benevolence-related items) not covered by the budget will only be added to the agenda by the Finance Committee. Requests for contributions from non-profit organizations will only be addressed by the Finance Committee during Budget preparation. These contributions will be limited to $100/organization unless JRBA is actively involved with the ministry.Stipends for Guest Speakers/Musicians: Stipends will be given to out-of-house speakers and musicians for the Fall and Spring Meetings. Rates were stipulated.Additionally, the Finance Committee noted that line items for non-functioning entities for the coming year will be covered under the umbrella of Additional Missions should the need arise: Youth Encounter and Hispanic Ministry. Carryover designated funds will be incorporated into the budget. A note was also made that there will most likely be an increase to the 2018-2019 budget since a number of organizations will be included in the budget. The goal is to more accurately reflect the expenses of JRBA’s ministry. The report, with its recommendations, was approved as presented.

There was no Old Business or New Business. Rev. Khol reiterated several announcements and a motion was made to adjourn. Rev. Woody Moore adjourned the meeting with prayer.
