Welcome to St. Edward’s Episcopal Church – established in 1968. This leaflet is your guide to the liturgy and is a resource for the material needed for this service. You will find three books in the pew rack in front of you - The 1979 Book of Common Prayer (red book), The Hymnal 1982 (blue book) and LEVAS (Lift Every Voice and Sing II - black and red cover). Hymn numbers preceded by ‘S’ are from the Service Music at the front of the Hymnal 1982. It is customary to stand during the singing of hymns, unless otherwise directed. It is perfectly appropriate to either stand, sit, or kneel for prayers. If you are visiting with us today, please be sure to fill out a Visitor Card (found in the pew in front of you) and give it to one of our ushers. We are blessed that you are here, and we look forward to meeting you! As announced last Sunday, September will be a month of experiencing different liturgies from our worldwide Anglican Communion. Our first Sunday, Sept 2, will be a Holy Eucharist that will pull resources from various Anglican sources (see page 14 of this leaflet for a list of resources).

We are also experimenting with changes that might help us facilitate the flow of our worship services. Here are two we are implementing this month:

1. Announcements will be made after the prelude and before the opening hymn.

2. The Peace will be passed with each person staying in place - passing the peace with those immediately in front, to the sides and back of you..

The Nicene Creed We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father.

Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
