Children in Caterpillars will find their name & picture and stick it to the ‘I’m here’ board.

Once your child has done this, they are able to choose an activity.

Children in Butterfiles will find their name card or write their name. Please help your

child to write their name.

It is important to give your child lots of

encouragement and praise for their efforts.

Once your child has finished writing their name, they are able to choose an activity.

Children can become upset at leaving a parent/ carer or be overwhelmed by the occasion. We

know how difficult it can be to leave your child if

they are upset but please try not to worry. Children usually become calm within a few

minutes and start to play happily. Sometimes it is best to say goodbye and reassure your child that you will return for them in a short while. If you are at all worried you are welcome to phone school to

see how your child has settled.

The Nursery and Reception class are part of the Foundation Stage therefore work closely together

in a number of ways.

We celebrate the children’s achievements, both socially and academically, with a Foundation

Stage assembly every Friday morning at 9 am. If your child has been chosen as ‘The child of the week’ you will be invited to come to this special

assembly to see their child get their reward.

The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum – what your child learns at Nursery

In the Foundation stage, learning takes place through play and first hand experiences. We aim to build on children’s existing skills and interests

and to develop these further through well planned free play and focused activities led by and adult. We also introduce phonics teaching when we feel

it is appropriate.

There are 7 areas of the curriculum:

Personal, Social and Emotional Development:

Developing confidence and independence Learning to concentrate

Behaviour in Nursery

In Nursery we expect the children to follow our special rules, these include having kind hands, kind words, good sharing and listening to our

teachers.

We encourage the children to follow our special rules by using positive praise where by we reward

and praise the children who are modeling the correct behaviour.

We believe that Nursery is a time to teach children the expectations in terms of how to

behave and therefore try to avoid being negative

Page 15: Web viewthe Nursery gate will be unlocked at the end of the session and the children will leave Nursery one at a time as the safety of your children is our priority

when unwanted behavior is exhibited, however, if a child intentionally and repeatedly chooses not to follow our special rules, they will receive a verbal warning, if the same behaviour then continues,

the child will be asked to take some thinking time for 3 minutes.

If the behaviour then continues following time out the child will be asked to take time out in a

different classroom, parents will be informed of any concerning behaviour at the end of the

session.

On a brighter note, those children who do extra special things in Nursery will be entered into a

draw for our ‘star of the week’ award which will be presented in our celebration assembly on a Friday

morning.

One last word…..

We are looking forward to you joining us, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask
