One of the main products we are developing is a low-cost hand-held breast cancer screening device that will be placed at primary careclinics (GP, Gyno, Nurse) to enable women to get tested frequently and painlessly.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women around the world in general and India in particular. Breast cancer screening programmes have proven successful in reducing mortality rates in different countries. Even though awareness is relatively high, In India, the amount of women who are screened regularly is very low (<5%) mostly due to low availability of affordable screening equipment and fear of existing tests.

Today screening is done mostly with a film or digital mammography. These are unpleasant tests using ionizing radiation and requiring experts to conduct the test. A mammography machine is a very large system that costs >$50K for a new film mammography and >$150K for a new digital mammography.

Vayyar’s device is handheld, pain-free (simply placed on the breast), does not use ionizing radiation (<0.1% of a phone call) and can be operated by a nurse. The system will be far less expensive than a film mammography system (at a pay-per-click model) and will eventually provide accuracy levels similar to a digital mammography system (with an advantage at younger women with a thick breast tissue).

We are currently conducting trials in Israel and are looking to expand our operations into India.
