A GUIDE TO NEW TRANSLATION OF THE MASS – QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS Will the changes affect the music for the parts of the Mass? Yes, to some degree. Liturgi-
cal music publishers have been developing new musical settings for the newly translated
prayer responses such as the Gloria, the Lamb of God, and other Mass parts. Many dioceses
and parishes will introduce people to these new settings to prepare them for use when the new
translation goes into effect. As far as St. Ignatius and Christ the Redeemer is concerned the
choirs have already been learning the new music settings. In the middle of October we will
introduce some of the music settlings into our weekend masses already. The Archbishop of
Detroit has permitted to do that.
Can I review the new translation of the Mass now? The new translation of the Mass is
posted online at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) website,
www.usccb.org/romanmissal. It has been made available for catechetical purposes. To avoid
confusion between the current and revised versions of the Mass, however the new translation
is not permitted to be used in the liturgy until it is officially promulgated on November 27,
2011. Again, as far as St. Ignatius parish is concerned the evangelization Committee has made
available the wonderful booklet “Understanding the Revised Mass Texts” by Fr. Paul Turner.
They are found in the Church pews in all our three Churches. Please take some time or a lot
of time to read them and review the new translation. I have ordered 500 pew cards for imme-
diate catechesis. As soon as they arrive we will do catechesis on the new translation.
EXPANDING OUR WEEKLY BULLETIN
We are currently in the process of revamping our parish bulletin and a committee has been
formed to explore this idea as well as to enhance other forms of communication. Our initial
aim is to double the size of our present bulletin, allowing for more news, in a more user-
friendly format (including larger fonts). We also intend to start selling advertising space on
the back page of the bulletin. What better way to promote your business or service than to
your fellow parishioners?! We will be providing more details in the weeks to come but should
you have any comments, questions or suggestions, please contact the church office.

News from St. Ignatius Catholic School
Dear Parishioners,
Saint Ignatius Catholic School has had a very busy start to the new school year. Last week we mentioned about
the work we are doing on Catholic Ethos and we will have a new initiative this week with a Rosary event on
Friday 7th October. This will link in with Catholic Schools all across the world and especially in the Archdio-
cese of Detroit. Our theme for the week is Prayer, Food for the Soul thus the rosary event ties nicely into this.
We are delighted to announce the appointment of our Head Prefects for 2011-2012. This year we have ap-
pointed two female sixth formers and I congratulate Kelcey Huggins and Danielle Borden on their appoint-
ments. I know that Kelcey and Danielle will be excellent role models for all our students and I am very confi-
dent that these talented and highly motivated young ladies will fulfil these roles of responsibility with great
skill and much success. In addition we have appointed deputy head prefects to lead the following groups: Aca-
demic Support (Sasha Veeran), Charitable Fundraising (Gemma Cowan and Lucy Day), Liturgy and Service
(Katalina Watler), mentoring (Alia Huzinga-Wright), Hospitality (Clare Louise McGrath) and School Sprit &
Events (Chloe Tathum). I wish them all much success in their new roles.
In our review of our summer examination results we have had many notable successes that I wish to pass on to
you. This week I wish just to feature the Year 13 group.
Our Year 13 graduates was our largest group to date and they achieved the second highest performance in the
history of the A-Level programme in the school. Just over 78% of examination entries were at A*-C grades
and what was especially pleasing was that the majority of students obtained the university course of their
choice whether in Canada the United states, UK or elsewhere. In addition, a number of students were awarded
very competitive private scholarships in addition to the government scholarships awarded and this is a tribute
to the excellent students we have and the great work done by Mrs. Artuch assisted by Mr. Embleton.
Some notable results include Michael Sun who gained five A2 level grades ABBCD, Michael has now gone
on to study Medicine at Emory University USA; Matthew McTaggart gained three A2 grades, AAB and is
now studying Aerospace Engineering at Pennsylvania State University.
Matthew also gained a full Scholarship from the Cayman Government and a scholarship from Campbells Law
Firm. Michael Testori gained 2 A grades and a B grade at A2 Level and is now studying law at the University
of Kent on a Walker’s Scholarship; Yannick Whorms gained an A and two B grades at A2 level and is pursuing
a degree in Law at the University of Leicester on a Maples Scholarship; John Fawkes gained four A2 grades, 1
A grade, 2 B grades and a D grade and is now studying Economics at the University of Newcastle funded
through two scholarships from the CI Government and Maples.
These are just a sample of the students who graduated from Year 13 this year and there are many more that we
could feature who have also done exceptionally well.
In the coming week we have all the school photographs happening and the last day of September was a non-
uniform day in the school. The funds raised from this fun event go towards our educational trips fund. This
October Mrs. Weaver will be leading a trip to Washington to deepen the GCSE students’ knowledge and
understanding of American History and Politics. The trip is already fully subscribed and I am delighted to be
able to accompany Mrs. Weaver for what should be an excellent trip.
On Friday 30th there is also a large group from the school going to see the Godspell production and I thank Ms
Kennedy and Mr. Miller for their promotion of this event.
Finally Mr. Doran is planning a school pilgrimage to Rome in summer 2012 and we are now advancing in our
planning and costing of this event. There may be some parishioners who may also be interested in joining this
group. It will involve a great deal of walking and the highpoint is an audience with His Holiness Pope Benedict
XVI. Such audiences can be reserved and Mr. Doran has had much experience in leading school groups from
the UK on such pilgrimages. However such reservations can be subject to change due to the Holy Father’s
changing schedule.
If any parishioner wishes to learn more about this planned pilgrimage please contact Mr. Doran at:

BETANIA (XIV) CAYMAN
Who are we?
Servant of God, Maria Esperanza de
Bianchini, who passed away in August
2004 and whose cause for Canonization
opened rather quickly by the Vatican, on
January 31, 2010, visited Cayman in
1998 when she formalized the Betania
Group of St. Ignatius under the priestly
office of Fr. Devon Nash.
She asked that we meet monthly for
fellowship, and to morally and
virtuously support each other in our
everyday lives, staying connected to the
main Foundation, at Finca Betania,
which together with her husband, Mr.
Geo Bianchini, and as directed by Our
Lady Blessed Mother, she founded, just
outside Caracas, Venezuela in 1976.
The Group, (which grew to
approximately 40 persons who had been
to Betania, and knew her personally), for
quite some time, was very active in the
Parish, but over the years since 2002,
had dwindled, mainly due to members
leaving the island. Late in 2009 at the
announcement of the Vatican’s Opening
of the Cause for her Canonization, we
were again brought together, by her
husband, to re-establish this monthly
meeting, and reconciliation.
Where is Betania?
Betania is derived from the word
Bethany which is where Jesus used to go
and spend time with Lazarus, Martha
and Mary.
Located an hour’s drive outside Caracas,
Venezuela, in the town of Cua, Betania
is a self-sufficient Farm, a Holy Site of
Pilgrimage approved by Bishop Pio
Bello Ricardo, (Vatican approval by
Pope Benedict XVI - as Cardinal
Ratzinger). Betania, which is the only
site of pilgrimage approved by the
church during the life time of the
Visionary, is open year round, for all the
members of the Betania Foundation, and
pilgrims from all over the world.
Limited standard accommodation is on
site for pilgrims, and the family of Maria
Esperanza, also have their second homes
located there.
Maria Esperanza, died in 2004 but
before her death, in a message from Our
Blessed Mother, she was told that
Betania would spread by communities
all over the world. Maria Esperanza
thought there would be 12 Betania
communities, however what started at
Betania to other parts of the World, now
numbers 15 communities and counting,
with the Cayman Islands approbated #14
community of the Apostolate to be
called Betania (XIV) Cayman, on March
27, 2010 in Betania, by Mr. Geo
Bianchini, President of the Betania
Foundation, and husband of Maria
Esperanza.
What do we do?
We endeavour monthly fellowship,
when we keep abreast of happenings in
the Parish and Country and discuss
topics of various interests, in particular
how we should disseminate the
messages of Betania, for the
development of a Marian Community in
Cayman, known with the approbation -
Betania (XIV) Cayman.
At each meeting, one or both of our
Priests is usually present. We start each
meeting with the Rosary, and follow
always with a nice pot-luck dinner,
discussion and fellowship. Always a
very enjoyable time, each person is
given the opportunity to voice their
concerns and issues, and where needed a
plan of collective action is usually
agreed. Normally we work within the
church along with the Evangelization
Committee and the Christian Service
Commission, or anywhere assistance is
available. We take turns to organize the
meetings and rotate to each member’s
homes as is convenient.
Betania (XIV) Cayman.
The mission of Betania (XIV) Cayman is
Reconciliation and the Gospel; these
encompassing every aspect of human
life, through living the Gospels, and
spreading the virtues throughout the
islands, growing the Catholic faith.
There is no definitive plan and the work
will unfold according to God’s own
plan. Focus is on the human family of
God encompassing all persons in the
nature of God. Love is the path to
Reconciliation and the Gospel and this is
the route we endeavor to follow.
Our Lady appeared in Betania
Venezuela as Our Lady Reconciler of all
Peoples and Nations. We are called to
live this message and to spread it, by
first, reconciliation within ourselves, on
into our families, our friends, our
community and the rest of the World.
Our Lady’s Message clarifies this:-
First Apparition: March 25, 1976 - 8:30 a.m. "Daughter, here you have Me, with My Hands enriched with graces and covered with splendors of light, to call all My children to conversion; this is the seed of glory I offer as "MARY RECONCILER OF PEOPLE AND NATIONS", for I come to reconcile all of you. Reconciliation is the inheritance of divine brotherhood of My Divine Son! Daughter, hand on My message to all. I will keep you here in My Heart from today on and forever!" Mary Reconciler of the People!
If you feel in your heart a desire to join
Betania (XIV) Cayman, we are asked to
consider that heart-felt feeling in the
manner of Our Lady at the appearance of
the Archangel Gabriel to her. Ask
yourself the question:- What is my role?
How can I contribute to the development
of Betania (XIV) Cayman through
reconciliation and the Gospel?
“Let us recall the words the Most
Blessed Virgin, Reconciler of Peoples,
gave us, through Maria Esperanza,
Servant of God:- “This is my time, this
is my hour and the bells are ringing,
calling all my children to announce
reconciliation to the world, so they may
lead a living example of an apostolic
life, with true fervor, drawn to love, an
expression of peace and reconciliation
among brothers. I want your conversion
to be total and universal, because this is
the humanity of Christ my Divine Son,
Who IS among you. The great day of
man’s freedom is coming and it is only
fair for all of you to be saved.”
Should you decide that you would like to
find out more, you are more than
welcome to attend our meetings. All our
members have had wonderful spiritual
experiences to share with you. Together
we will build on all our ideas, goals and
aspirations for a Marian Community in
Cayman, where Our Blessed Mother and
Her Son, Our Lord lead us to peace and
reconciliation with God; Our Father.
Betania (XIV) Cayman promotes a life
of prayer and Community Service, and
although not obligatory we do
recommend the following:
Daily Mass attendance:- the Mass is
the summit of our faith and we gain our
strength from receipt of the Blessed
Sacrament.
Eighteenth Apparition: March 28, 1989 - 5:00 p.m. "My daughter, My children, here I am... I beg each one of you to especially mend your lives, with penance, the needed prayer, to vindicate God's justice, so offended in these times by men... on the other hand, it is very important for you to attend Holy Mass frequently and to receive the Eucharist... so that My Divine Son's nourishment may help you in such a way that you will feel enlightened inside by an unknown light... wonderful and sublime... which is the great sign God, Our Father, wishes for the salvation of all those who with humility surrender faithfully to His Heart..!" "That is why, nourish and increase your fervor, longing spiritual
improvement... so you may serve, offering your lives as brothers with a deep and lively brotherly participation... so you may enjoy the goods God created for all of you..!" "Children, I love you very much, and My love is so great I call each one of you to My grotto of prayer, so you may meditate and live the Gospel... protected by the grace of the Holy Spirit... with His divine charismas..!" "Behold, I offer you My Heart, united to My Divine Son's Heart, so you may live the most profound experience with Us... in order to enjoy the sublime moment of a living testimony, the fundamental basis of a great truth: WE LIVE AMONG YOU! Participate children! And cradle yourselves here in My Heart..! I keep you..!" Mary Reconciler of the People!
Daily Adoration, silent prayer is a
means to get to know Our Lord and to
build up our relationship with Him.
Fifteenth Apparition: February 16, 1989 - 4:00 p.m. "Daughter, children, here I am..! Living among you..! Children, My Heart beats with Heavenly delights as I gaze at each one of your faces which come to find the hope of better days, to solidify your steps on the road that leads to Mount Zion. For My fountain of the waters of Betania shall restore your souls to a new life... that will bring you to lead an apostle¹s life, that is to say, of service, devoted to a mission of love, which will reaffirm your trust in the
light of the New Dawn of My Divine Jesus! He, My Beloved Son, wishes for all of you to live cradled in this motherly Heart, with the charismata and graces of the Holy Spirit. In this way, My children may hold hands, based on the Commandment, Love one another..!¹ It is the only truth that can save mankind from a war among brothers... that is to say, in these times, all should have recourse to the charitable harvest of good deeds, which is the identification of love and of truth of God's people, who are longing for Social Justice... because as long as unity does not come forth, you will lead a life of anguish, grief, shadows and sorrow. Behold, children, the love of a Mother, who cherishes you... and comes as a starting point to lead you toward a law of justice, love, peace and reconciliation..!" "Prayer... Meditation... Penance... Eucharist..!" Mary Reconciler of the People!
Daily Rosary, this is a weapon of the
Church and through it we ask Our
Blessed Mother’s intercession.
Seventh Apparition: March 25, 1984 - 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. "My children, I am Mary, Virgin and Mother Reconciler of Nations, I come with My Son in My Arms to reconcile you. O sublime hope of yours..! Pray the Rosary..! Sons and daughters, you have felt Me and seen Me, touching the truth that I live among you... continue to be loyal to the call that today I make... and let us walk
the path together..! I lead you..!" Mary Reconciler of the People!
We encourage an annual pilgrimage to
Betania, or another Holy Place of choice.
Our Lady calls us all to frequent retreats,
so that Her Son can rekindle every cell
of our body, making us as new. Betania (XIV) Cayman is planning a
Pilgrimage for March 25 2012, Feast of
the Annunciation. which is the 2nd
Anniversary of our appointment as
Betania (XIV) Cayman. This date will
be an annual anniversary event.
