Happy holidays to the Wedgewood membership! 2019 was another terrific season at the pool. I would like to personally thank our dedicated Board for their hard work over this past year. They spend countless hours, often behind the scenes, to ensure things operate as seamlessly as possible throughout the summer. Special thanks to Rob Berzanski who will be transitioning off the Wedgewood Board in January after 9 years on the Board and having served as President through December 2018. Robs contributions have been significant and will benefit the club for many years to come. I also want to thank the members that volunteered their time in various ways throughout the season. We couldnt do it without you. We continue to be in a strong financial position that allows us to continue to make improvements at the club. In 2019, we were able to complete two major projects with the construction of the pavilion and the refurbishment of the baby pool. The pavilion has been a great addition to club and we were thrilled to see it getting used for birthday parties and other events. The baby pool also turned out great and the fountains were a huge hit with the little ones. We are actively working through a capital planning process to identify priorities for the coming years so we can allocate funds accordingly. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me or a Board Member if you have any ideas or suggestions. Given our current financial position and wait list, we will not need to increase dues for the 2020 season. Special thanks to our long time swim Coach Jim Villa and Assistant Coaches Leigh Anne Patterson and Christopher Gaffney for another great season. The swim team went 3-2 in the ADivision. We had 108 swimmers with 65 Tri- County qualifiers and several new records. Special thanks to Coach John Morris and Assistant Coach Emily Drees for a great season with the dive team. The team had 44 divers including 21 that qualified for the South Jersey Diving Association 1M Championships and one new record. Special thanks to our manager Scott Cameron, his assistant managers and life guards for doing an excellent job operating the pool and most importantly keeping our members safe. I would also like to thank Chip Adamson for another terrific job running our snack bar. Chip arranging for the Phillie Phanatic to come to pool was definitely a highlight of the summer.

Rob’s contributions have been significant and will benefit the club for many years to come. I also want to thank the members that volunteered their time in various ways throughout the season. We couldn’t do it without you.

The swim team went 3-2 in the “A” Division. We had 108 swimmers with 65 Tri-County qualifiers and several new records.

Special thanks to Coach John Morris and Assistant Coach Emily Drees for a great season with the dive team. The team had 44 divers including 21 that qualified for the South Jersey Diving Association 1M Championships and one new record.

I would also like to thank Chip Adamson for another terrific job running our snack bar. Chip arranging for the Phillie Phanatic to come to pool was definitely a highlight of the summer.

Wishing you a happy and healthy 2020 and look forward to seeing you at the pool.

Tennis

The tennis program had another successful year. We offered a spring adult clinic, a free Memorial Day Clinic for juniors and adults, summer clinics for swim and dive team members, a 10 week junior summer camp, and a summer tennis tournament. There were 51 participants in the summer junior and adult tennis tournament beating the 2018 total of 47. The junior summer camp had a 15% increase in attendance from 2018 with about 20 swim club members attending the camp at some point throughout the summer. The summer clinics for swim and dive team members were also well attended. We plan on offering the same successful programs in 2020. Anyone who has any suggestions for additional programs and events should contact either Mitch Winkler at [email protected] or Marc Fisicaro

at [email protected].

Social

The Social Committee’s role is to provide opportunities for members to mingle and get to know each other, build relationships and have fun at pool sponsored events either during or outside the normal pool hours. We continue to build on our staple events such as the holiday celebrations - Memorial Day, School Is Out, Fourth of July and Labor Day Parties. On Memorial Day, we added children’s crafts by the baby pool to include coloring, chalk designs and bubbles. We continued our Movie Night with complimentary popcorn and candy. We brought back the Adult Social at the pool; it was well attended and a big success! We renewed the weekly happenings for our younger members –cupcake & cookie decorating are always a big hit, bead making and playdough activities were added along with more pottery and painting

classes. During hot summer days we offered complimentary Mr. Softy ice cream and homemade sundaes complete with all the fixings. We continued our tradition of Halloween in July with a poolside Trick or Treat party including costumes, prizes, crafts and games. This year we added a cotton candy machine, which the kids loved! We look forward to bringing our members new and fun activities for all ages in the coming season.

Swim Team

Wedgewood Ducks had another solid swim season. Head Coach Jim Villa along with Assistant Coaches Leigh Anne Patterson and Christopher Gaffney, led the Ducks to 3-2 season in the “A” Division. We had 108 swimmers this year and about 65 qualified for Tri-County. Many of them qualified for the Tri-County Championships, more achieved personal best times in the dual meets, and all enjoyed a fun and rewarding summer being part of a team. Please consider joining our team next season. Besides great exercise and team cohesiveness, your child will enjoy taking part in the potluck team dinner, pool games, Secret Duck, Pep Rallies, breakfast at McDonalds and so much more. If you are interested in Winter Swim, there are several Clubs in the area. Wahoos, SJAC, Blue Wave, are just a few options where many of our swimmers swim in the off season.

We also had several record breakers this season:

Congratulations to all swimmers and we look forward to another great season in 2020!

Dive Team

The Wedgewood Dive Team had another fabulous year in 2019 with a team of 44 divers ranging from 6 to 14 years old. 21 divers qualified for the South Jersey Diving Association 1M Championships, which was a great accomplishment, as the Association raised the scores required to qualify this year.

We placed 3rd as a team overall and 16 of our divers placed in the Top Ten in their events, including gold medals for Liam McCarroll, Quinn Gagner and Alex Nuckols! Alex also set a new Wedgewood Record at the first qualifying meet.

Special thanks, as ever, to Coach John Morris and Assistant Coach Emily Drees.

Please contact Mr. Cameron if you are 15 or over and interested in working as a lifeguard for the summer of 2020 at [email protected]

The Wedgewood Snack Bar had our returning vendor this year, Not Just Snacks, LLC. Led by Chip Adamson, the snack bar had a popular menu that was enjoyed by our membership.

The daily specials and the wide selection were a big hit. The snack bar did a great job managing the large crowds during the swim and dive meets we hosted at our facility. Special thanks to Chip for always going above and beyond for the Wedgewood membership. The visit from the Phillie Phanatic was certainly one of the highlights of the summer.

Snack Bar

The house and grounds team spent many hours this past year working tirelessly to ensure the grounds were properly maintained and the facility was a safe and tranquil environment for all members to enjoy. This past year, we were finally able to complete two long-desired projects, including the construction of the new pavilion and the improvement/upgrades to the baby pool, which will provide increased value to all members for years to come. The entire Board worked together to accomplish all the various tasks necessary to complete both projects on time and under budget, and the results were overwhelmingly positive. The pavilion was frequently booked this summer to host a variety of parties and banquets, and provides an overall enhanced ambiance to the pool. The new features of the baby pool look great and

the two water fountains delivered endless enjoyment for the Wedgewood Ducklings. The repairs made to the baby pool will help extend the life of the pool for many years. In addition to the pavilion and baby pool, additional projects/enhancements completed this year included: - Four gas grills were permanently installed adjacent to the pavilion - Ongoing repair/replacement of pool side tables, chairs, loungers, and shades. - Continued work to remove dangerous trees/tree branches from the many trees around the property. - New landscaper was hired for the year who provided a greater level of service throughout the year to keep the grounds looking pristine - Pool main pump replacement
