After our most recent victory in Pambula, the TPS team was thrust into the last seven teams in NSW and the State quarter final. Fortunately we were to play at home to the Sydney South West champions, the very strong Panania Public School, after travelling more than 2,500km in their previous four games. Robbo had the softball diamond marked up and looking a treat ready for the game. (Thanks Robbo) The quarter final was hard fought from the start with accurate pitching and skilful fielding from both teams to see the first innings ending at 1-1. It was from there that Panania drew ahead to win 12-2. The score line did not reflect the closeness of the game with both sides pushing to the end. Coach, Mrs Beth Hatty, said that she was extremely proud of the girls’ efforts. “They have given up their own time since February to train during lunch breaks. Many of the girls are playing softball for the first year and have made significant improvements due to their dedication and enthusiasm. They have been a joy to coach throughout the year and they should be feel very pleased with the year they have had.” After the game our incredible P&C provided lunch and refreshments that was fit for royalty. We are very grateful to them for providing such support. Our visitors were also very appreciative of their catering skills. In addition it was fantastic for the families and members of the local community to be able to watch and support the girls play. We thank you them for their encouragement and backing. We are very proud of our team and the remarkable journey they have been on and the commitment they have made. A huge thank you to Mrs Hatty for giving up her lunchtimes throughout the year and teaching these young players the ins and outs of competitive softball. I’m sure it has been worth it. Logan played against the best primary-aged boy cricket players from across the State of NSW among all school sectors. He said that he had learnt a lot from his team and the opposition teams he played against. Being in Year 5 he gets another opportunity to try out for the team next year. A great job Logan. Well done!

Should you require financial assistance please make an appointment to contact me through the office. No Hat No Play! In Term 4, we have a No Hat No Play policy for all students expecting to play in the playground. Please ensure that your child has a suitable broad brimmed hat for the start of the term. Hats with the school emblem are on sale at the school office. They are very practical and look quite smart. All kindergarten students should have been given one as a welcome gift from the P&C. If your child is new to Kindergarten and hasn’t received their hat yet, call in to the office and see one of the lovely ladies in the office who will be able to assist you.

Community Notes THRIVE OSCH SERVICE IN JEOPARDY! In February 2019 Thrive OSHC commenced operating in Tocumwal, offering before and after school care and vacation care. Based at Sacred Heart Primary School, the service was also available for families of Tocumwal Public School and Pre School and employed local people.

Unfortunately, the service has not been well utilised by the community. Prior to establishment our survey showed sufficient demand for a viable operation. However, we are now in a position where we may need to close at the end of 2019. Our service is operating at the lowest possible cost and attracts child care subsidy. Some parents pay as little as $3 per day for care.

If you are interested in enrolling your child/ren at Thrive OSHC and need the service in 2020, please contact us to show your interest.
