What’s Happening atLogan PlazaWith a special thanks to local developer Ben Stroh, Logan Plaza is undergoing development and I am happy to share our involvement.

UnityPoint Health – Waterloo has agreed to occupy space in the new North Crossing development near Allen Hospital with a goal of creating additional and appropriate ways for individuals to access healthcare in our community. This project presents excellent opportunities to improve patient care in our region.

One of those opportunities involves decompressing the services oered on-site at Allen Hospital and providing them in a more patient-friendly environment. Expanding our geographic footprint and putting providers in a position to coordinate care more eectively was a driving force behind UnityPoint Health – Prairie Parkway in Cedar Falls and applies to this plan as well.

The development will include a new UnityPoint Health Urgent Care. Ad-ditionally, physicians and sta at UnityPoint Clinic Family Medicine and Internal Medicine, currently located inside the hospital, will relocate to the new development.

We are thrilled that a developer has taken on this project and the city of Waterloo is taking the necessary steps to revitalize our neighborhood. The benefits will extend further than our own operations.

THINK HEALTHY

Q: Is there a policy regarding radi-os playing o the computer in patient check in areas? Seems to be unprofes-sional and loud at times?

A: If the music is bothersome or too loud, please contact the individual’s manager who should address it.Dan Norman, IT & Steve Sesterhenn, HR

Q: What is the policy concerning personal pictures being used as screen savers or backgrounds on shared com-puters in the nurses station?

A: While there is no o¢cial policy, if the photo is bothersome or oensive, please contact the individual’s manager who should address it.Dan Norman, IT

Q: What is UPH’s policy on tattoos? I have been told by my manager that any tattoos that are visible need to be covered while I am on the clock, how-ever, I see other employees in other departments with full arm sleeves not covered. Is this a company-wide policy or does your manager decide if you have to cover them up?

A: According to the Professional Dress and Appearance policy, “Tattoos are to be covered by clothing or hosiery whenever possible. Tattoos on the face or neck or not permitted.” Please feel free to address the concern with the individual’s manager if you see someone who is not following the policy.Steve Sesterhenn, HR

Q: Why isn’t the dress policy being enforced? I’ve seen nurse practitioners, social workers, case managers with leg-gings, open toed shoes, tattoos on feet and short dresses.

A: If you see a person that is in viola-tion of the policy please politely inform their manager of your observation. That manager then should address the issue.Steve Sesterhenn, HR

Depression can be a di¢cult topic for many people to talk about, but it can be even harder for men. Research shows that men are less likely to seek help for common mental health conditions when they need it.

Depression diagnoses are more common in women than men. However, some new research shows that when clinicians consider the more typical male symp-toms of depression such as risk taking and aggression, the rates are actually much more similar.

About 6 million men in America experience depression in any year. Depression is a highly treatable condition. Allen Hospital’s EAP oers free and anonymous mental health self-assessments at www.UnityPoint.org/Waterloo/employ-ee-assistance-program or call EAP at (319) 235-3550.

‘Transitions of Care’, a Key Part of T.H.E. Care Model, Begins PilotUnityPoint Health is taking another important step in implement-ing T.H.E. Care Model to standardize and improve the delivery of care for our patients and families. Between now and the end of the year, Cedar Rapids Care Coordinators and other sta who work with patient discharges will be piloting improved Transitions of Care (ToC) for our patients. After the pilot is complete, plans will be finalized for implementation for all regions of UnityPoint Health.
