Semicolons are used to …

• Join together two independent sentences.– Example: • I have a signed Batman comic. It is the most valuable

comic I own.

• You can use a semicolon to join those two sentences together to form a larger sentence.

• I have a signed Batman comic; it is the most valuable comic I own.

• When using a semicolon to join together two independent sentences, you must make sure that the sentences relate to each other and have some common bond or idea.– Examples of what not to do
