Program Overview

WEDO Discovery@ Sri Lanka is an 8-day journey in Sri Lanka. In WEDO Discovery, you will have2 identities, both tourist and program organizer.

At the beginning, you will have a chance to experience local language (Sinhala) and culturalimmersion while travelling in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. It allows you to build up a betterunderstanding about the country. There will be a number of cultural exchange activities and localhome experience for you to feel the passion, hospitality and genuine culture of Sri Lankans.

Facilitated by our supportive and experienced Sri Lankan program coordinator, this is an excellentopportunity for you to develop personal and leadership skills, be challenged, enhance globalperspective, and be exposed to and immersed in a very different culture. You will have theopportunity to organize and execute programs in schools.

Special features of the programWandering through the bazaars , temples and streets of Colombo and Galle

Galle, as it is seen today, is inextricably linked to the great maritime powers of the 16th and 17thCenturies: This is a great place to explore as it shows the ancient look and feel. Besides, Galle offersbeautiful beaches around the south south-west c ost in Sri Lanka.

Exploring the interesting cultural history and architecture of the UNESCO World Heritage

Being largely well preserved, Galle Fort provides a fascinating insight into colonial life. The original Dutchbuildings inside the fort were designed to be as insulated as possible from the sun, with multilayered tilesroofs and thick masonary walls

Delving into local Sri Lankan family life and experience the hospitality of local people

Interview and Selection First meeting + 2 preparationworkshops

WEDO Discovery @ Sri Lanka

1) Application All the applicants need to fill in the application form and meet the following requirements.

Applicants MUST (1) be 18 years old or above(2) have a passport valid for not less than 6 months from the date of arrival

2) Interview and SelectionThe selection process aims to ensure that everyone who is going to participate in WEDODiscovery@ Sri Lanka is suitable and would have a positive experience. The selection would bein group basis and conducted by WEDO GLOBAL.

3) Result AnnouncementSuccessful applicants will receive a confirmation email 2 days after interview. To secure yourplace for WEDO Discovery@ Sri Lanka, you have to deposit full program fee 2 days afterreceiving the confirmation email, otherwise the offer will be released to other applicants onwaiting list.

4) First meeting + 2 Preparation workshops After the first meeting, you will get a brief idea about the program and your teammates.

2 compulsory preparation workshops would be held to assist your preparation for the program.The preparation workshops are critically important to ensure that you are ready to make themost out of the journey. You will be able to further understand your roles and responsibilities inthe program. The workshops would be conducted in Hong Kong with the following areas:

Material preparation (Gift and resources for activities and different target groups) Cultural preparation (basic information and cultural background of Sri Lanka)

Skills building (including leadership and communication skills)

*Remarks: FULL attendance of Preparation Wrokshops would be required.

6) Sharing + Follow up actionsSharing and follow up actions would be in self-initiated basis with different scale. The timeline ofsharing seminar and follow up actions are to be confirmed.

The Budget of program

Program Cost for Summer 2013 is HKD 7,900 per person*Discounted student price is HKD 4,900 per person

Included in program cost: Workshops and training (Minimum 8 hours) Program arrangement Learning kit Basic Accommodation Breakfast for 7 days Sri Lankan Program Coordinator (Throughout the program) 1 bottle of water per day Entrance ticket to temple Airport pickup and drop off

Once you have completed and handed in a 10-page reflective journal (this is a journal which willbe useful for your whole life and funding application), you can apply for a HKD500 refund fromWEDO GLOBAL. In addition, there will be a learning opportunity to organize a big-scale event byraising different resources from different stakeholders.

If you have successfully applied for the program WEDO Discovery@ Sri Lanka, there will be adiscount offered for you to purchase round trip air-ticket, visa and insurance application service.

*Participant has to show valid student identity card to enjoy the discounted student price.
