BY USING SIMPLE CURVE, WE MANIPULATE THECONTROL POINTS TO CREATE COMPLEX CURVES. WITH THESE COMPLEX CURVES WE GENERATE A SERIES OF ‘SKINS’ THAT LATER BECOME ‘BODIES’ OS SMOOTH COMPLEX CURVES. BY USING SIMPLE TECHNIQUES, WE ARE ABLE TO UNCOVER COMPLXITIES HIDDEN WITHIN CURVES

HYPERBOLIC WOOD STRUCTURE

MATERIAL: 2”x4” LUMBER

LOCATION: PASADENA CITY COLLEGE AMPLITHEATER

OBJECTIVE: AS A GROUP, WE WERE TO DESIGN AND CREATE AN INTERACTIVE SPACE USING ONLY ONE KINDOF MATERIAL. BY STUDING THE ADVANTAGESAND DISADVANTAGES OF OUR MATERIAL, WE WERE ABLE TO DESIGN A FORM NOT NORMALY SEEN GENERATED THROUGH WOOD.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: THE APPROACH IN DESIGNING A HYPERBOLIC FORM WAS TO GO FROM A SINGLE LINE TO CREATING A FIELD OF LINES. BY USING A JIG, WE WERE ABLE TO KEEP A PERCISE MEASUREMENT SO THE FORM WOULD BE EQUAL ALL AROUNG. THE FIELD IS CONTINUOUS AND BY EXPLORING OUR HYPERBOLIC FORM, WE WERE ABLE TO FIND THE AXIS OF ROTATION THAT THE FORM FOLLOWS TO CREATE A COMPLEW CURVE.
