Hounds

vs.

2013 Results: The Hounds and Rattlers split their regular-season series, with each team winning its

respective road game.

All-Time Series: The teams are an even 2-2 against one another.

While the teams have split each of their two regular-season series, the Rattlers overall have outscored the Hounds by a 47 to 39 goal margin. The Rattlers also have gotten more shots on goal (97 to 90),

despite the Hounds having a slight advantage at the faceoff X (52 of 102) and with groundballs (136 to 118). One of the big differences has been goaltending, as John Galloway has compiled a 57.0SV% in four games against the Hounds, while Adam Ghitelman has posted a 52.0SV%. Due to a scheduling quirk last

season that saw the Hounds and Rattlers play a home-and-away series early in the year, the teams haven’t faced one another since May 11, 2013. A lot has changed on both sides, with each team building

through the draft and adding fresh legs to its rosters. With both groups coming off big wins in Week 9 and hungry for the playoffs, the game should get off to an energetic start.

HOUNDS

The Hounds last week got back in the Win column, thanks in part to an eight-goal fourth quarter – which

included a 2-point goal from Mike Sawyer – to top the Cannons 15-12. It marks the first time in the

Hounds’ three-year history that they have beaten the Cannons. The game was back and forth from the beginning, with the teams tied at five going into

halftime. The Cannons pulled ahead 9-6 by the end of the third, but the fourth quarter was all Hounds.

Adam Ghitelman had six saves in that quarter alone (19 all together) as the defense held the Cannons to

just three more goals to seal the victory.

Players To Watch

Justin Ward (A) – The rookie is averaging 3.8 points per game, which ranks fifth among all MLL players.

John Haus (M) – He has already quintupled his 2013 output. Through 8 games last year, Haus tallied 3g,

2a. Through 8 games this season he has 15g, 3a.

Geoff Snider (FO/M) – Made his return to MLL action last week, going 10-26 at the X. His performance on

Saturday will play a large in role in how successful the Hounds are against the Rattlers.

RATTLERS

The Rattlers come into Charlotte riding a two-game win streak, including last week’s thrilling 19-14 victory

over the Outlaws. The Hounds and Rattlers are the only two teams to beat the Outlaws in the past two

seasons. Despite the Outlaws scoring the game’s first goal, the Rattlers jumped ahead 5-1 by the end of the opening quarter, and outscored the visitors 6-3 in the

second. The Outlaws started to come back in the third, thanks in part to two goals from Drew Snider,

but the Rattlers held on for the victory. John Galloway finished the game with 8 saves on 21 shots,

while Outlaws goaltender Jesse Schwartzman was pulled shortly after the start of the second half.

Players To Watch

Justin Turri (M) – The former Hound leads the Rattler with 27 points, nine of which were tallied in the last

two weeks.

Jordan MacIntosh (M) – The third year player is averaging 2 goals per game against the Hounds.

Joel White (D) – He has amassed 245 groundballs over three and a half seasons, and currently is on pace to top his single-season best of 71 in 2011.

NOTEWORTHY – July 5, 2014

HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE: All four of the Hounds’ wins this year have come at home, while all three of the Rattlers’ losses have come on the road.

HONORS & AWARDS: MLL this week named Ryan Flanagan its Warrior Defensive Player of the Week

following his performance against the Cannons.

LIGHT UP THE NIGHT: Orleans Homes following Saturday night’s game against the Rattlers will put on a fireworks show to celebrate Independence Day.

DOUBLE TROUBLE: The Rattlers this season have allowed a league-low two 2-point goals, while the

Hounds aren’t far behind with only three 2-point goals allowed. In addition, the Hounds rank second in MLL by scoring six 2-pointers.

KEEP THE STREAK ALIVE: Ryan Young enters Week 10 riding a 25-game streak of recording at least

one point, dating back to Aug. 11, 2012 (including the postseason).

BALL SO HARD: The Rattlers have registered the most groundballs in the league, with 299. The Hounds have collected the second fewest with 241. However, Ryan Flanagan ranks fourth in MLL

among defenders with 36 groundballs this season. The Rattlers’ Joel White has collected 52, the most among MLL defenders.

THE CENTENNIAL CLUB: Matt Danowski is five assists away from 100 on his career….Ryan Young (64g, 25a) is 11 points away from 100 on his career.…Brett Schmidt is eight groundballs away from 100 on

his career.

SPECIAL FORCES: The Rattlers hold the second-best penalty kill in MLL at 73.53%, while the Hounds have had the least power-play success at 18.52%.

WORLD GAMES: MLL next week will be on a bye so that players can participate in the FIL World Championships, to be held July 10-19 in Denver, Colo. Hounds midfielder Casey Cittadino will be

competing as a member of Israel Lacrosse. It is the first year Israel has had a team in the tournament.

HAIR TODAY, GONE TOMORROW: Hounds rookie faceoff specialist Brendan Fowler this week chopped off his long hair and donated it to the Locks of Love organization, which provides hairpieces

to financially disadvantaged children in the U.S. and Canada under 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.
