We have many first-time players and soccer-parents this year, so I hope that you found the meeting to be helpful as we all got acclimated. Please keep the following in mind: Timeliness. Practice is on Thursdays and starts at 6:00 PM. Kids need to be dressed to play and in their cleats and shin guards upon arrival. We only have an hour per week to practice, so every minute counts. There is to be one official clock for all games this season, which means all games in a time slot will start at the same time. We cannot delay the start as we wait for everyone to arrive or to get prepared to play. Attendance. We have a short season and I want your child to get the most out of this experience possible. Being here is fundamental to skill development and enables him to maximize that opportunity. If you can’t make it or will be late, try to let me know so I can plan accordingly. Hydration. Please make sure your child has water to drink during the games and practice. As we saw last week, the boys get very hot very quickly. Safety. Protective equipment including cleats, shin guards and soccer socks are all necessary for practice and games. Your child may be excluded from participation without these items. I can’t believe we have just one more practice until our first game. We will play against the Vols this Saturday 9/18 at 10:30 on field 5. We will be the HOME team, so we will wear our jerseys with the orange side out. Please be sure to purchase a pair of black soccer-style shorts to wear on game day. Our cost for Upward uniform shorts doubled this year, and we are certain you can find a better bargain at the store of your choice. Your child’s player gear will include an Award poster for displaying the Game Stars he will earn throughout the season. Please stick around after each game for our Star presentations and cheer on the kids as they earn stars for displaying the characteristics below. The goal is to recognize your child’s BEST effort in the area, not necessarily the most points, blocks, etc. for the team. This recognition is a great way to build self-esteem and team spirit! Scripture Learning Offense Defense Sportsmanship Christlikeness Effort Finally, HAVE FUN! And be sure to include our team and this ministry in your daily prayer time. Please let me know if you have any questions. SEE YOU THURSDAY EVENING! In His Service, Coach Tim
