Discipleship… …means embracing and assisting in spreading the teaching of others.

Teaching Point The first statement Jesus ever made in His public ministry was for others to become His disciples.

“Discipleship” comes from the word “Discipline”

2 – Internally Trained Self-Control

Teaching Point God has given us the capacity to be self-disciplined.

Discipline can either be:

1 – External Corrective Punishment

Supporting Biblical Passage:“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love, and of self-discipline.” 2 Timothy 1:7

Self-Control is a teaching of Jesus and it is a requirement for Discipleship

“Be self-controlled and alert.” 1 Peter 5:8

“It (God’s grace) teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self-controlled.” Titus 2:12

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Galatians 5:22

The Importance of Discipleship to Others

Benefits Include:• Re-enforcement of our own understanding and our own efforts • Helping others to know and experience the benefits of being in

relationship with God• Good spiritual and physical health
