Global Citizens of the Future TAIRUA SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 13th March 2012 Week 7 of 10 Kia Ora tatou Endah Setyaningsih, from Sur faid International, visited the students in room 5 with the pur pose of sharing her role and experiences from her time in the Mentawai Islands. Endah is the field monitoring officer for Surfaid International, the non profit humanitarian organisa tion that aims to improve the health, wellbeing and self reliance of people living in iso lated regions in Indonesia. She has a key role in ensuring the HIIHFWLYHQHVV RI 6XUIDLG·V FRPPXQLW\ EDVHG KHDOWK SUR gramme and works directly with those that need help re ceive this assistance. Tairua School has contributed $8000.00 over the past two years through the paddle event and we hope to double this total in 2012. All parents are wel come to attend and the same format will be completed. Thank you to all our parent helpers and those that assisted with transporting the children back to school. The Tairua School Website: Over the past couple of weeks you may have noticed some significant changes to the school website. Once again Mark Hemmings has constructed and developed a website that truly identifies what Tairua School has to offer and why we are so unique. Using images, text, video and kids work samples, the website promotes our Citizenship concept, experiential and relevant curriculum and what our school looks like in action. We are looking to fully utilise the website so it is not only a reference point for parents and visitors to the school, but, an extension of the chil GUHQ·V OHDUQLQJ :KHQ \RXU FKLOG HQUROOHG ZH GLG DVN SDU ents to sign an agreement that allows the school to use photos and work samples in a range of media forums. If you have any issues with images of your child being used on our website or are unsure if you filled in the consent form, please pop into the office for a catch up. W.A.S Swimming Competition: Our inter-­school swimming team, comprising of the following students, spent the day competing against our neighbouring schools at this years W.A.S inter-­school swimming sports. Thank you all those parents that assisted with transportation for this event. Rebecca , Karla, Denise, Cade, Phoenix, Jack Z, Tara. Bryony, Ruby, Bayden, Gabby, Rhea, Lily S, Jenna, Ahi, Vita, Harlee, Maika, Cooper, Sam S, Flynn, Harry. Glee Club: For 2012, we have initiated a new programme for selected students only. Glee Club (basically a modern day choir) is a singing / dance club that performs a range of modern, up to date songs with different arrangements. You may have seen a T.V program with a similar title, however, I can a assure you our Glee Club will have less social complexities. We have recognised a vast array of talent in this curriculum area and believe that an extension group would benefit these chil-­dren. Through the exceptional talents of Kat Vaughters and John Hert, this group will develop a wide range of vocal and performance based skills. The following students will be par-­ticipating in this programme. Stephanie, Rebecca, Denise, Denzel, Thomas, Marlow, Flynn, Paris, Mohini, Phoenix, Tara, Vita, Jenna, Bronte, Gabby, Zion, Sage and Jessica K. Cades Surf Report: afternoon. Junior Soccer Muster 2012 Season: The soccer muster will take place on Thursday 15th March at Tairua School at 3:15pm Coaches and managers are needed for all grades, come along and get involved. Mercury Bay Day Camp: Day camp for 6 -­ing the second week of the school holidays, Tuesday to Thursday: April 17, 18, 19. There is a limit on the numbers so please register quickly! Forms are available from the school office or can be downloaded from the website: www.daycamp.co.nz Teen Leaders: are also needed. Day camp cannot function without teen leaders, age 14 upwards. Teen leaders must also come to the training day on Monday 16th April. Farmhouse Fun Camps -­ Horse Trekking The Farmhouse will be running horse riding camps for two weeks during the April holidays. We are members of the OSCAR foundation and have CYF approval.
