Week 8 –19th June 2019 Sharing Our News
The school was a buzz last Thursday, with our launch of our
new student mascot - Tawny. He arrived in style and spoke
with the students about being a Kind, Safe, Proud and
Supportive student at King Street Public School. Tawny will be
joining us at major events including Tawny Assemblies,
carnivals, Monday morning assemblies and community
events. We look forward to seeing more of Tawny as he has a
wealth of information to pass onto the students, teachers and
the community.
Congratulations to our amazing students who performed with
distinction at Star Struck on the weekend. All of the students
have been rehearsing extremely hard and are a credit to
themselves, their families and we are certainly proud to have
them represent our school. Photos of our students are on our
Facebook page.
Good luck to our boys and girls touch football teams who will
be competing against Singleton Heights Public School in the
first round of the PSSA Knockout competition. We are positive
you will represent our school with honour and compete hard
on the day. We look forward to hearing about the competition.
Our Life Education experience will start on Monday 24th June
and it is expected that all students will be in attendance at the
program as it covers many parts of the PD/H/PE curriculum.
Students will enjoy the content with the highlight being our
friend Healthy Harold.
A huge thanks to Mrs Francis who has provided the school
with three ducklings. They are extremely cute and the
students working in the EWOKS area are enjoying the cuddles
and the experience of holding live animals. Our students and
Mrs Fishpool have established an amazing vegetable garden
and continue to work hard in creating a wonderful
masterpiece.

King Street is an Allergy Aware School
This is a reminder for all families that some of our
students have serious reactions to products
containing nuts and fish. We ask that you please
do not send foods or containers to school that
contain nut or fish products.
This includes nutella and peanut butter spread.
Showing Positive Behaviour for Learning
Tawny congratulates the following students for
displaying our King Street Values of Kind, Safe,
Proud and Supportive in Week 7.
Star Struck Performance
Last week 13 of our students went to Newcastle to
perform in Star Struck. Star Struck is a musical
performance which has 3500 students from Primary
and High Schools from around the Hunter and
central Coast participating. The theme this year was
‘No Limits’.
Our students danced to the song ‘Come Fly With
Me’ dressed as aliens and martians. Their behaviour
was outstanding and they exemplified our school
values. We would like to thank Ros Kelley and
Christine Wyborn for their help on Friday and
Saturday. The students will be performing their
dance at the Tawny Assembly Thursday 4th July.
Wellbeing of Students Valued
Please be aware that we have two immune-
suppressed students at our school. If your child
develops a contagious disease, please let the school
know ASAP so we can act accordingly.

MT Owen Mine Visit
Students were shown
around the Mt Owen
Mine seeing all
aspects of the
production of mining
coal. They asked
many questions
throughout the visit and thoroughly enjoyed the
experience. Big thank you to MT Owen Mine for
hosting our Year 5 students.
Premier’s Debating Challenge Gala Day Our Year 5 team “arguably the best” and Year 6
team “in pursuit of dispute” had a great 2 rounds of
the Premier's Debating Challenge grasping 1
victorious win from our Year 6 team. Our teams
consisted of five Year 5 students, Noah H, Shayna
M, Charlotte R, Charlie S & Tesha L and four Year 6
students, Chelsea M, Tori M, Katy L & Mayya C.
They competed against Branxton Public School and
Singleton Heights Public School where they debated
about the topics ‘every class should adopt a cat or a
dog as a pet’ and ‘that primary schools should never
use electronic devices for teaching’.
Our teams represented KSPS with pride and look
very much to competing in rounds 3 & 4 next term.
Mrs. Brooker

UNIVERSITY OF NSW 2019
International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS)
Each year King Street Public School offers our students the opportunity to participate in the UNSW
International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS).
Students from Year 3-6 have the opportunity to enter Digital Technologies, Science, Writing, Spelling Bee,
English and Mathematics. This year all assessments will be conducted online.
Regardless of students’ results, they have a wonderful opportunity to experience and master the skills of
external testing. Sometimes students can have the knowledge but not the confidence when they are put
into this sort of environment. As there is more external testing happening right across our educational
system, it makes sense to offer them this opportunity if we can.
All students receive a certificate and an individual report.
Please return the attached form for each child to the school office with payment.
