Each year our sanctuary is decorated at Christmas with beautiful poinsettias. These are purchased in memory of loved ones in our parish. If you would like to have a poinsettia purchased in memory of a loved one, envelopes can be found in the gathering

space or in the parish office for your donation. Return them to the offering baskets in the parish office.

Page 7: WEEK OF DECEMBER 20, 2020...2020/12/20  · second 4 PM Mass in the School Gym since this is the most attended Mass. Overflow from the school gym will be in the Multipurpose room where

What is the overflow plan once the church is full? Once the church is full, the Parish Center will be filled and the Mass will be live streamed in the Parish Center. Communion will be brought into the Parish Center to maintain social distancing. We will have a second 4 PM Mass in the School Gym since this is the most attended Mass. Overflow from the school gym will be in the Multipurpose room where the Mass will be live streamed, as well. When we have reached capacity for all of the spaces we will have to ask you to attend another mass time.

Will there be reserved seats? No, we welcome attendance at the Mass of your choice! When you arrive, you will notice that some seating has been reserved for those helping in ministry roles for that mass. Please plan accordingly and realize that there may not be space in the church depending on the mass you attend and the time you arrive. Historically, the 4 PM Mass is the fullest. Call the office if you can help fill a ministry role!

What Covid Safety protocols will be in place? Masks are required per Bishop Joensen for all persons over 5yrs of age. Each household will be seated together 6 feet away from other households to provide social distancing. Hand sanitizer will be available at all entry doors.

What doors will be open and when can we enter? The N and S Gathering Space doors will be open 45 minutes before the 4 pm Mass and 30 minutes before all other Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Masses. Our normal church entrance doors will be closed to allow for ushers to properly seat each family. The Multipurpose Room door on the west side of the school building will be unlocked 30 minutes before both Masses in the school.

Will Masses be live streamed? We will be live streaming the 4pm English Mass and the 6pm Spanish Mass. We hope to see many of you at Mass, but understand that some parishioners may not be ready to attend in person. The Mass can be viewed on Youtube or Facebook by going to www.sacredheartwdm.org

Where is the best place to park? We are fortunate to have a large parking lot, so please fill ours first! Additional parking may be available at the MercyOne Clinic or Stillwell Jr. High School.

Will there be vocal music prior to Mass? We plan to have piano music prior to mass, but sadly we are unable to have choirs this year.

What are the Christmas weekend Mass times? We will have our normal weekend schedule. 4 PM Mass Saturday December 26th, Sunday December 27th Mass will be offered at 9 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM Spanish and 5 PM English.

When can I receive Reconciliation? Reconciliation is offered each Saturday from 2:30-3:30pm. Additionally, it will be offered each Tuesday leading up to Christmas from 530-630pm in the Parish Center.

What are the Mass times for Solemnity of the Blessed Virgin Mary? We will have a Vigil Mass Thursday, December 31st at 5 PM English and 6:30 PM Spanish. On Friday January 1st, we will have 9 AM English Mass.

ACTIVE APOSTLE SHOUT OUT! TJ Boetger

As we prepare for the busy Christmas season, we want to recognize TJ Boetger with Boetger Lawnscapes as an active apostle. TJ donated the materials and decorated all seven of the outdoor planters around the church for the winter season! This is a wonderful gift to the Parish! In addition to the planter

greenery, each year TJ donates boxes of loose greenery that is used around the altar for decor during our Advent and Christmas seasons. TJ, thank you for making Sacred Heart such a warm and welcoming place this winter season! If you have gifts and talents to help with buildings and grounds, please reach out to the staff as spring is right around the corner (we all can dream!). TJ is pictured with his son, Zavier.

Seeking Unreachable Goals By Debbie Chalik

When my daughter was in 1st grade her brother was in 2nd. For most of her life, my daughter’s primary goal was to do everything better that her brother. The truth is that her brother had no idea that they were in competition. When he was 4 and she was 2 ½, we were trying diligently to teach him to tie his shoes. We were under the first-time parent illusion that he was behind in his development. We did not want him to flunk kindergarten. My daughter sat in the corner watching him practice until she figured it out. My son also learned and, much to our delight, he went through kindergarten and passed with flying colors. During my daughter’s 1st grade year, the teacher generously gave her students a fancy pencil for every book the student read. She knew exactly how many books her brother read in 1st grade and she was prepared to read more – no matter what it took. And she did. After watching her grow up, I soon learned that it was not so much that she was competing with her brother. He was the standard to which she set her goals. Now that Advent is over, I find that I am evaluating what I have accomplished in the past 4 weeks. I have read my inspirational books, watched my inspirational videos, and said my prayers faithfully. But what did I really accomplish? I proved to myself that I could do it – no matter how busy my life became. But I learned something even more important. I learned that everything seems better when the standard to which you set your goals is high. What higher goal is there than striving to imitate the holiness of Christ. It’s not easy. In fact it is an unreachable goal. But it is important to remember that the success is in the trying, and I feel good about that. Merry Christmas! CFF Calendar January 6 CFF 13 CFF 20 CFF 27 CFF

Reminder: Please stay tuned for any changes to our schedule after Christmas break!

New Small Group Options Starting in January Sacred Heart has over 7000 parishioners. When you look around do you really know each other? St. Vincent’s Corner Merry Christmas! Sacred Heart’s St. Vincent de Paul wishes everyone a joyous Christmas.

Sacred Heart’s St Vincent de Paul have several requests on our Christmas list and would like to discuss them during the month of December. While 2020 has been full of challenges, many suffer year round and struggle with numerous challenges.

This week we wish for joy! SVdP strives to help others, help themselves so that we can break the cycle of poverty by empowering those we assist. We have many success stories where temporary assistance was provided to help in times of crisis. We are present to assist others during job loss, layoffs, surgery, health crises, pending disability approval etc. We have provided rent, utility and/or food assistance. Empowering others is the best way to spread joy!

We are certain everyone recalls the Sesame Street song, People in Your Neighborhood and the lyrics, “Well, they’re the people that you meet, when you are walking down the street, they’re the people that you meet each day”. Vincentians meet people in need all the time and it might be the people you see everyday. It could be your waitperson, coffee barista, grocery checker, or a fellow parishioner that can’t pay their rent, or water bill, or power bill or struggle to buy food. Many of those we assist are not unemployed, they are UNDERemployed and often working two jobs. Those that are unemployed are looking for work during this pandemic.

These are the people in your neighborhood, the people that SVdP helps each day!

So on this Christmas, we conclude our Christmas wish list. We humbly thank Sacred Heart Parish for all the support. Without the 5th Sunday Collections, we would have no budget. The support of the Parish Office personnel, the staff at Sacred Heart School, the Women’s Guild and the Knights of Columbus help our ministry throughout the year. We are so grateful for the Sacred Heart community. This Parish brings us pure joy! We hope we can spread the joy of the Christ child to all we encounter. Thank you and have a very Merry Christmas.
