InearlyMarch,all5thgradestudentswilltaketheGeorgiaWritingAssessment.Thisisastandardized

writingtest.Itdoesnotaffecttheirpassingstatusfor6thgrade;however,itisanindicatorforwhich

writingclasseswouldbemostappropriateforyourchild.Westronglyencourageallofourstudentstodo

theirbestonthisassessment.Justlikewithanystandardizedtest,werecommendagoodnight'ssleep

andagoodbreakfastpriortothetest.

Studentswillberandomlygivenaprompt-eithernarrative,informational,orpersuasive-andtheywill

haveatotalof2hourstocompletetheirwriting.Theymustreadandunderstandtheprompt,pre-write,writearoughdraft,edit,andcompleteafinalcopyinthat2-hourtimeperiod.Thefinalcopycanbeno

longerthan2pages,single-spaced.Studentswillreceiveasmuchpaperasneededfortheirprewriting
