Laurier Varsity Basketball Game- in Waterloo
Saturday February 2 — We will be heading to Waterloo to
cheer on our Basketball Varsity teams play against Waterloo
University. We will be leaving Brantford at 12pm and heading
back at 9:00pm. Tickets are $8 at the U-desk; this includes
the ride to Waterloo and the ticket to the game.
Lacrosse Toronto Rock Game
Friday March 9 - Come out to see the Toronto Rock play
against Philadelphia. We will be leaving Brantford at 5:00pm
and Heading back after the game. Tickets are $30 which
includes the ticket to the game and the bus ride to and from
the game. Tickets will be sold at the U-desk!

Extramural Dodgeball Presents: Comedy Night
We’re welcoming Yuk Yuks comedians Arthur Simeon and
Patrick Haye. Come out on January 29 for a fun filled night of
comedy and laughter. Tickets will be available for purchase
at the U-Desk starting on Wednesday, January 16th and are
$10 each. Get your tickets ASAP! Show starts at 10pm.
Students Inspiring Change Forum
Have your say in improving your learning experiences on
campus. Laurier Brantford students are encouraged to take
part in the new Students Inspiring Change Forum. The forum
will focus on generating and pursuing ideas and projects
designed to contribute to an improved learning experience
for students. Membership in the forum is open to all
members of the Laurier community, and ideas for forum
projects will be generated by members themselves. Examples
of possible projects may include: What is the student learning
experience at Laurier? What is the contribution of high-
impact educational practices to that experience?
This is an opportunity for students to have a say in what their
learning experience is like on campus and suggest ideas for
future projects. Student involvement at every stage of the
forum process is key to its success, so it's important to have
Brantford students represented to share their experiences and

2012-13 marks Nipissing University's 20th Anniversary as an
independent university and the Brantford campus' Decade of
Education in Brantford. We're hosting a Birthday Party to

WANTED: Volunteer Note-Takers
We are now accepting applications for volunteer note takers. FAQ from applicants:
Who are note takers? People just like you; students who are interested in helping out other students (who are registered with
Accessible Learning) obtain a complete set of lecture notes.
Who can register with Accessible Learning? Any student who has a documented permanent or temporary disability.
Am I required to take notes for all my classes? No. Just the one(s) that AL matches you to based on requests received.
Can I add this experience to my CCR? Absolutely! All active note takers can add this to their CCR.
Sounds like fun! How do I apply? It is fun! If you have a GPA of 7; take good, comprehensive notes; are willing to upload your
notes within 2-3 days of the lecture; then you can apply by selecting the "self registration" tab in my learning space and
clicking "alc Brantford note taking". You can then complete and submit the application. It's that easy!

Reading Week Trip Opportunity
The History Students' Association on the Waterloo campus would like to invite the Brantford community to come on our
Washington DC trip for Reading Week. The cost for the trip is $230 and includes bus fare and hostel accommodations. We will
leave on Sunday, February 17 in the morning and will return on Wednesday, February 20th. Destinations on the trip include
guided tours of the Smithsonian Institutes, Arlington Cemetery and many more must see sights. If you are interested, email

Night Hawks Present: Tony Lee X-Rated Hypnotist

Campus Club: Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship
We welcome everyone to come and join in our Morning Prayer that takes place every Wednesday morning from 8:45 - 9:45
am to pray for our campus and anything else going on in our lives. This will be happening in the SCJ Building in Room 210.
You can send any prayer requests to us at [email protected]. We also welcome you to The Bridge. It’s purpose
is to bridge students into community with others and with Jesus. It takes place every Tuesday from 5:00PM-7:00PM in RCW
324. This is our weekly scripture study and hang out time. Please bring an appetizer, dinner dish, or dessert as we will be
having a potluck dinner together each week. We hope to see you there!
Jesus Night 3! On Monday January 28 @ 7PM Laurier Brantford 4 Christ (LB4C), a group of Christian clubs on the Laurier
Brantford campus (Marked Generation, Power to Change, Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship) are hosting a night of worship,
prayer, and community for all Christians on our campus! There will be an engaging speaker from our community, as well as
acoustic worship, snacks, and small-group prayer! We encourage everyone to come out as its going to be a great night and
being united as one community of students is so awesome! Venue: Freedom House (basement of the Market Street Mall,

Please check your LORIS OSAP status for the most up to date information regarding your Winter term disbursement. If your
LORIS OSAP status states “2nd disbursement of OSAP funding on hold, login to your OSAP online account to confirm income
and course load immediately” or “Unable to confirm registration for OSAP purposes. Insufficient course registration”, this
means that you are not registered in the course load you indicated on your application.
Example 1: A student indicated a 100% course load for both the fall and winter terms on their OSAP application. Current
course load status for the student is Fall 100% Winter 120% - we cannot confirm your enrolment. Please e-mail us from your
mylaurier.ca e-mail account to confirm if you will be staying in your 120% course load or if you will be dropping a course.
Example 2: A student indicated a 100% course load for both the fall and winter terms on their OSAP application. Current
course load for the student is Fall 100% Winter 60% - we cannot confirm your enrolment. Please e-mail us from your
mylaurier.ca e-mail account to confirm if you will be staying in your 60% course load or if you will be adding any additional
courses.

that details a student’s extra curricular activities associated with WLU which is great to attach to a resume. For information on

Laurier Brantford reads Alyssa YorkP
Associate Dean Kathryn Carter will lead a book club, meeting
three times in the winter term, to discuss Fauna by Alyssa
York. We will partner some of our discussions with a Laurier
Waterloo book club running at the same times, led by Eleanor
Ty. Those in the book club will get a special chance to meet
Alyssa York when she comes to the Brantford campus for a
public event on the evening of February 27.
Dates and times: January 28, February 4, and February 11 at
4:30 in the afternoon, location TBA.
Staff, students, and faculty are all welcome.
Workshop Series: Tech Tools for Academic Success
Tech Tools for Academic Success is a series of 3 workshops designed to introduce you to available software on campus. Hands
on demonstrations and tutorials will teach you how to best utilize the software to be more efficient in your academic tasks. The
workshops are designed to introduce you to technology that can assist with note taking, reading, organization, and writing. You
are encouraged to bring your own computers to practise the skills demonstrated to them during the workshops. You must
attend all 3 workshops to be able to add this activity to your CCR.
Workshop One: OneNote — OneNote is a Microsoft note taking software available on all PC computers. It often comes pre
loaded onto a PC and is a great tool for note taking in University. Attend this workshop to learn usage and shortcuts on a very
useful program that can really improve your university experience. With notebooks for courses and pages for individual notes,
note taking can't be any easier; the best part is that you never have to save a thing! OneNote automatically saves everything
you do! Offered in SCJ 214 on January 29: 11:30-12:30.
Workshop Two: Text To Speech — A variety of text to speech software programs will be demonstrated at this workshop ranging
in price from free to cheap. Attend this workshop and learn how to use technology to listen to your readings on your computer
(MAC or PC). Offered in SCJ 214 on January 31, 2013: 12-1.
Workshop Three: Inspiration — Are you having trouble organizing your thoughts for an essay? Or making a presentation for a
class? Well then Inspiration Software can help! Come on out to our workshop where you will learn how to make awesome essay
outlines and presentations. Feel free to download a demo version of this software prior to attending the workshop
(http://www.inspiration.com/) to have it available -full versions are available to you in any LB computer lab. Offered in SCJ 214
on January 31: 1:30-2:30 and February 5: 1-2.
Prism Funding: Apply today!
PRISM funding is a pool of funding that is available to
those students, staff and faculty of campus groups
attempting to engage in diversity & respect-focused
programming for which other sources of funding are not
readily available. Requests to the PRISM fund will be
reviewed as they are received, however applicants should
allow 3-4 weeks for the funding request to be reviewed
and results released. Students, staff and faculty interested
in receiving funding should complete the PRISM Fund
Application.

Writing Well Workshop Series
The first day of 6 weekly Wednesday workshops is Wednesday, January 23 in MP115 from 4:00 – 5:00 pm. This workshop is
meant to help students to enhance their academic writing skills. Students are encouraged to bring the assignments they’re
working on with them for assistance and feedback. Registration recommended – spaces are limited!

Are you having problems finding the meaning behind your readings? Do you want to learn how to analyzing, interpret and

The librarians are available in the Learning Services centre on Tuesdays from 4:00 -6:00 pm and Thursdays from 3:00 – 4:00
pm for drop-in appointments. Alternatively, a librarian will also be available on Thursdays from 4:00 – 6:00 pm by

Facilitated Study Groups for Winter 2013
A FSG is a place for you to get together with other people from your classes and a FSG leader to discuss the course content,
and gain a deeper understanding of what is being discussed in the class. This does not mean that the FSG leader will teach
you the content, but they will help you understand it or realize that you understand it. They will also help students
understand their assignment requirements.
