There are aquariums who have cameras set up, so you can watch all the sea animals from home. You will get to watch them today too. There will be a few different videos for you to watch, so you can see all different type of ocean animals swimming around. I hope you enjoy it!

Fine Motor SkillsDeveloping fine motor skills is important for this age. It improves the use of the small muscles in the hands, wrists and fingers. It also strengthens hand-eye coordination. Here are some suggestions for activities the children have done in the classroom:

drawing, coloring and painting Tracing cutting with scissors building blocks and Legos Play-Doh and puzzles lacing or tying activities stacking up cups using tweezers or tongs to pick up objects

Be creative with any other activities and have fun!

Please review the following concepts:

Please practice tracing and spelling your child’s first and last name.

Coloring Gluing Cutting

Alphabet /Literacy: Review Letters of the Alphabet I can recognize letters and sounds. I can trace and write the letter. Helpful Hint:Review how to form the letter, first by tracing it with your finger and then by using a pencil to trace. Please look at both the capital and lowercase letter.

Review Letter Tt and Uu: Tt is for turtleUu is for umbrellaPurpose: For each letter: Varied letter practice

Resources Used: • Letter ___ Pages • Letter ___ Mini-Book

Suggested Use:Use the corresponding Letter Pages for independent practice. The children will be able to recognize, trace, and write the letter.Move on to letter formation practice using the Letter ___ Mini-Book. The first page of the mini-book reinforces proper formation with a fun rhyme to remind the children the motions they make to form each letter. Students will

then practice writing the uppercase and lowercase forms of the letter and complete a short activity. Repeat this process with each letter of the alphabet.Letter Tt and Uu PacketsFirst, 2 Letter Page Worksheets are for independent practice.Second, Pages: 1-4 can be made into a Mini-BookPlease see Little Angels Class Webpage – PDF

There is no timeline for this. Your child can work at his/her own pace.

Story Time:

Please remember, reading is a daily activity! Read with your child for at least 15 minutes a day!Choose additional books from your collection at home to practice important literacy skills. Choose books from different genres and about different subjects.

Helpful Hints:* Try to encourage complete sentences from your child, not just one word.Tip: Use the pictures to help your child recall information and answer your questions. Read aloud the author’s name and illustrator’s name (if applicable). Define these terms for your child before reading the story.

* Review the concept of an author vs. illustrator- the author writes the books while the illustrator draws the pictures. Review also photographs vs. illustrations- photos are real while illustrations are drawn. Use this information to engage in a picture walk with your child. A resource on how to do this is provided below (we have also done picture walks in class to tell stories before):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-VuqGVdeSk(a walk-through of how to do a picture walk and modeling of questions you can ask)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGGIK74N6SA(an example of a child engaging in a picture walk- this child is older, but your child will be able to provide details with guidance from you!)Tip: Think about the 5w’s, facial expressions, how the pictures are drawn/made, the colors used, etc. All of these details tell you about the

Page 7: Week - holyangelsbayridge.org · Web viewmagnetic or sponge letters. fishing net or cooking spider. Activity: - Fill a bin with water and add the magnetic or sponge letters inside

story. Be sure to go slowly through the pictures. See if you can tell the story without reading the words on the page.

Introduce the story by reading the title and showing the front and back cover.  Ask what does he or she see on it?Read the name of the author and ask what does an author do? Read the name of the illustrator and ask what does an illustrator do?  Turn to the title page and read title again and ask – Why does a book have a title?  (It tells us what the story is going to be about.)  Ask what is this page called?  (The title page).Introduce any words in the story that your child may not know and explain definition.Read story.  At the end of the story ask some who, what, where, and when questions.

Who are the characters in the story?  Remember characters can be people or animals.

Ask where did the story take place? Was it in a house, forest, outside, kitchen etc.?

When did the story take place?  Was its morning, noon, or night. Is this a true story?  Could it happen in real life? Example: Can animals

talk in real life? What happened in the beginning of the story?  How did the story end? What was your favorite part or character in the story? Your child can

draw a picture to one of these questions. At the bottom of their picture, write a caption. Your child can dictate what is happening in the picture and you may write it for them.

Today we are going to read Mister Seahorse by Eric Carlehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fag8yv3AN5s

Page 8: Week - holyangelsbayridge.org · Web viewmagnetic or sponge letters. fishing net or cooking spider. Activity: - Fill a bin with water and add the magnetic or sponge letters inside

All the animals in the story were very responsible caring for their babies. What does responsible mean? It means you do the things you are expected to do. Are you responsible? Draw one way you are responsible.

Art: Let’s make a seahorse! Choose one of the art activities from below:

Watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=103&v=9ryG3FM9CLM&feature=emb_log o and follow along with the directed drawing. When finished, watercolor paint your seahorse.

Create a seahorse from a paper plate and use tissue paper or scraps of colored paper to decorate.

Free Choice/Creative Playtime:

Activities You Can Try Together:

1. Go Fishing:Materials:Waterproof binmagnetic or sponge lettersfishing net or cooking spider

Page 12: Week - holyangelsbayridge.org · Web viewmagnetic or sponge letters. fishing net or cooking spider. Activity: - Fill a bin with water and add the magnetic or sponge letters inside

Activity:- Fill a bin with water and add the magnetic or sponge letters inside. You may want to add various other objects as well for interest. Be sure to cover your workspace in case of spills. You may work outside, weather permitting.- Give your child the net and see if they can fish out all of the letters. If they catch a different object in their nets, they must set it free!- Once all the letters have been caught, line them up in sequence. Have your child identify each letter as they sequence them.

2. Colored Tape FishChildren draw their own fish on a piece of paper. They tear off pieces of colored masking tape and stick them on for the fish’s gills.

3. Crab WalkChildren crawl like a crab from one point to another. After children have had some practice, have them figure out a way to carry a bean bag while crawling like a crab.

4. Using Legos or any blocks you may have in the house, build different shapes. Start by building two of the same shapes in different sizes. Describe and compare the shapes (e.g. this one is bigger than this one, this is a different color than this one, this has more sides, etc.).Tip: Encourage your child to look at multiple attributes- size, color, number of sides, rounded or cornered, etc. This will help your child get acquainted with mathematical vocabulary.
