top car park until your daughter is ready for your arrival. Parking spaces are reserved for the Headmistress’s visitors and Staff – please keep these parking spaces clear. The speed limit of 5 mph on School property may seem very low but it is so low for the safety of everyone. We thank all parents in anticipation of your full co-operation in this regard. Sun Protection Now we are into the Summer Term, the girls are able to take full advantage of our wonderful grounds at break time and during PE lessons preparing for and on Sports Day. We have plenty of shady areas for the girls to play in and the Early Years and Juniors wear their hats on hot days. However, it is important that SPF 15+, which is recommended by the Sunsmart Cancer Research UK, is applied each morning before the girls come to school to protect their skin and brought in (named) if your daughter needs to re-apply it. Please use SPF 25 if your daughter is particularly fair skinned and freckled. Extra bottled water is also a good idea, although the girls do have access to water to refill their bottles during the school day. White caps are available for Senior girls to wear at the cost of £2.00. Please email Miss Axton if your daughter would like one. “Celebrate Cycling” FAQs Help us by pre-registering your family via your child’s school or pre-school : - you’ll have everything you need in advance - we’ll know how many children to expect. All children must be accompanied by an adult! Please remind your children that walkers and horse-riders have priority over cyclists on the Common, so they must slow down and give way. It’s a bit like orienteering on a bike and we set up several trails: - Shorter trail - relatively flat track and suitable for novice

riders / those on bikes with stabilisers but not for scooters. - Longer trail - suitable for more able cyclists, those in child

seats on the parent’s bikes or tag bikes. It is a more challenging route with some “hills”. The track can be muddy in places particularly if it’s been raining recently!

- Optional extensions along quiet residential roads - A mountain bike trail for VERY ABLE CYCLISTS. Start anywhere on the trails between 10am – 3pm. Follow the markers anticlockwise, stamping your collecting cards at each check point. Participating schools / playschools will exchange completed collecting cards for a certificate. Don’t forget to visit us tunnel car park on you way around ( ) to let us know what you think.

Most importantly - HAVE FUN!

Celebrating Cycling, Bookham Common, Sunday 26th June 2016 10 am – 3pm

Any updates to the following information will be posted on www.facebook.com/CelebrateCyclingBookham. We provide two trails around Bookham Common, and three optional extensions for more able cyclists:

The shorter trail is suitable for novice riders. It is 1.4 miles long on a relatively flat track. The track is not smooth so it is not suitable for scooters, but is passable for those on bikes with stabilisers.

The longer trail is 3.2 miles long and suitable for more able cyclists, those in child seats on the parent’s bikes or tag bikes. It is a more challenging route with some “hills”. The track can be muddy in places particularly if it’s been raining recently!

Optional extensions: 1) To/from Downside along Bookham Road, 2) along quiet residential roads from the exit of the Common into Meadowside and returning to the Common via The Glade & 3) mountain bike trail for VERY ABLE CYCLISTS.

There will be check points on each trail. Using collection cards and maps provided by your child’s school, collect markers from the checkpoints on the trail to show you have done the whole route. There are no set start or finish points, and you do not need to register your arrival. You can start anywhere on the trail as the routes are circular. Please follow the markers and go round anticlockwise. Please remember to remind your children that walkers have priority over cyclists on the Common, which means they must slow down and give way to any ramblers.

It is recommended that you bring the following:

Collecting cards (It is a good idea to hole-punch these and thread with an elastic band so that they can be attached somewhere handy.)

Cycle helmets for all participants

Suitable clothing for the weather conditions (and that are suitable for riding a bike)

Sunscreen (if it is sunny!)

Water/drinks and snacks as desired. (Consider bringing a picnic to have on the common or to continue your ride over to Downside and picnic on the field/play area near the Cricketers pub.)

Before you set out:

check that all bicycles are in good working order

remember that there are no toilet facilities on the Common!

we would prefer it if you do not bring dogs with your group. The Common will be much busier than normal and with very young cyclists who may not be confident riders.

Very limited parking - Please arrive by bike. The trails can be accessed from Downside, The Glade, Meadowside (via Tunnel Car park), Church Street, Maddox Lane & The Cobham Road. In dry weather, the track from Effingham Junction (Bank’s Lane ) can be used, but this can be very difficult/muddy after rain.

This is a parent/guardian-led activity: The trails are undertaken at the riders risk and all children must be supervised by a responsible adult.

To take part: 1. acknowledge that you have read & agree to these conditions of entry by signing the permission slip below. 2. Return the slip permission slip to the school office to receive collection card(s) and a map for your family. 3. Turn up at the trail on Sunday 26

th June between 10am and 2pm (to allow your family about 1 hour) and start collecting the

markers from the checkpoints. Your children should then bring their cards back to school to receive their certificate. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
