DIVINE WISDOM The Lord’s message, through Moses, was to “take no revenge and cherish no grudge . . . love your neighbor as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18). We might think, “Great in theory, but not always realistic!” Then Jesus in today’s Gospel goes even further. Take a slap in the face and then turn the other cheek? Treat enemies the same as friends? Again, we’re tempted to think that those are nice ideals, but not very practical in the “real world.” Paul echoes Jesus when he tells the Corinthians that what passes for human wisdom is absurdity to God. Divine wisdom casts sunshine on the good and the bad, showers rain on the honest and the dishonest—without distinction. We must examine our wisdom and common sense to see how they compare to the wisdom of God, and make adjustments accordingly. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

. . Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

“ONE FAITH, ONE FAMILY” - 2017 ANNUAL

MINISTRIES APPEAL (AMA): P.A.R.T.I.C.I.P.A.T.I.O.N! In order to reach our diocesan ($36,000) and parish ($100,000) goals, we need each household in the parish to participate! Last weekend, you heard from members of our parish community about how the AMA helps and serves our diocese and our parish and how our rebate money will be used (mainly renovating our parish restrooms). If you were not prepared to drop your pledge envelope in the col-lection basket this weekend, you may do so over the next month. Gifts of every size are appreciated. Our goal is to do better than last year’s 12.9 % participation. As Fr. Manny says in his letter: “whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully … for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:6b, 7b). Online giving is also available at www.dioceseofmonterey.org/ama.

We thank you for your generosity and support. If you have any questions, please contact either the parish office at 424-1959 or the AMA “Hotline” at 831-645-2808.

“UNA FE, UNA FAMILIA” – PETICIÓN ANUAL DE MINISTERIOS (AMA) 2017:

P.A.R.T.I.C.I.P.A.C.I.O.N!

From the RCIA Ministry: Dear Sacred Heart Parish community, with only one month away from the start of the Lenten season, I’m happy to an-nounce that the new Inquiry Group season will begin on Saturday, March 11th, and will run through early May. If you or someone you know is interested in completing their sacraments of initiation in the Catholic faith (Baptism, Communion and/or Confirmation), now’s the perfect opportunity to learn more about the process. Contact Anthony R Córdova, at (831) 772-8226, for further information.

BIBLE STUDY continues to meet on Thursday evenings from 7-8:30 pm. We are currently using an offsite location. Please call the Parish office at 424-1959 or email [email protected] for more information. Newcomers are always welcome!

LENTEN SOUP NIGHTS…have you ever heard that if you have extra guests coming for dinner, but not enough soup for everybody, you put a stone in the soup to make it seem like more, and then there’s always enough to go around. We’re bringing back a simple, social tradition for the Lenten season…prayer, soup, and fellowship on Tuesday nights. If your ministry would like to sponsor one of the nights, call the parish office to schedule your time.

Why Catholic? Program Leads Adults on a Journey Through the Catechism

This Lent, parishioners in parishes across the Diocese of Monterey will take advantage of the time the Church reserves for self-reflection by asking themselves a very important question: Why Catholic? To help find answers, the Diocese, along with RENEW International, is extending an invitation for adults to join their parishes in both discussing and learning more about their faith. Seeing the overwhelming need for Catholic adults to understand the complexities of their faith, RENEW International, a Roman Catholic organization that focuses on parish renewal programs as well as catechesis for dioceses all around the country, formed Why Catholic? It is a faith formation program that offers a journey through The Catechism of the Catholic Church and Scripture in the comfortable environment of small groups. For more information, please call the office at 424-1959, Peg Stanford at 422-0983, Sally Torres at 214-0663, or Ed Limbo at 578-4858.
