“I have seen the Lord!”

In John 20, on that first Resurrection Sunday morning, Mary Magdalene came running to find the disci-ples to let them know that she had seen Jesus – and He was alive! A few verses later, Jesus appears to the disciples huddled together behind a locked door because of their fear of the Jews and Jesus comes and stands among them. The Bible says that they rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Afterwards, they kept telling Thomas, who was not there when Jesus had come to them, that they had seen the Lord! Still, Thomas would not believe until he, too, had seen the Lord – and when he did, he fell at his feet and worshipped Him! In Numbers 21, when the Israelites impatience prompted the LORD to send poisonous snakes among them, they appealed to Moses, the man of God, to intercede for them. When Moses did just that, the LORD told him to make a bronze snake, mount it on a pole, and raise it up among the people. When someone was bitten, and he looked at the bronze snake, he recovered. When Jesus was teaching Nicodemus about salvation and forgiveness of sin He used the example of Numbers 21 and said, “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, so that everyone who believes in Him will have eternal life” (John 3:14, 15). Beloved, the Bible is very clear that it is both our privilege and our calling to “Lift the Resurrected and Living Lord Jesus Up” so the whole world might see Him – and live! Seeing Him as He truly is – the unique God-Man; Victor over death, hell, and the grave; King of Kings and Lord of Lords- is what true saving faith does! In seeing Him in that way, we see ourselves as we truly are – desperately lost; hopeless; dead in our trespasses and sins; destined for eternity in hell, completely void of any and all of His goodness and grace! When we get those two pictures clearly in view, we can then simply “look” to Him, just as the Israelites did in the wilderness, and live! Have you “seen” Jesus? Not with your physical eyes, but with the eyes of faith! If you have you know what His salvation and forgiveness and restoration is all about! If you have, you know what’s it’s like to have been given the gift of a New Beginning! If you have, you and I MUST have a passionate desire to help others who are just as blind to Him as we were, to “look’ upon Him with faith and belief. We MUST go tell all we can that we have SEEN the Lord, He has changed our lives forever, and He will do the same thing for them! This Easter Sunday, our church is partnering with Georgia Baptist churches all across this great state to INTENTIONALLY invite ONE MILLION guests to worship with us on this special Sunday. We have asked you to PRAY specifically for your neighbors and to invite them, if they don’t have a local church home, to be our guests. We are asking you to help us this coming Sunday afternoon, March 19th, from 4-7 PM, as we go door-to-door in our neighborhoods inviting guests to come. We will have available for you this coming Sunday both INVITE CARDS and DOOR HANGERS to use in your door-to-door canvasing. You can either come to the church to help us make sure we cover the neighborhoods around our church or you can do the same in the neighborhood where you live. It will not be as daunting a task as Satan would have you imagine. We simply want you to knock on every door, introduce yourself to our neighbors, ask them if there is something you could pray for them about, and INVITE them to be our guests. That’s all! The DOOR HANGERS we will use say this on one side: “Start Your New Beginning.” Easter is about new beginnings. Maybe life has not gone as you had hoped. We all struggle. We all fall. We do not have to stay down. Mark this Easter as your New Beginning, and come celebrate it with us!” And on the other side it says: “You are Welcomed! We love your community and we love you! We would be honored to have you as our guest on Easter Sunday – or any Sunday! Please check us out further on our website or call us with any other questions you may have.” I know our church family loves the Lord and loves what He loves – those yet lost in this world! Survey after survey tell us that over 80% of people who are unchurched say they would listen to a sincere invitation from someone they know, and would be open to respond. Almost 50% of the people who attend church for the first time do so simply because someone like you or I invited them! Sadly, however, only a very small percent-age of us regular church goers ever personally extend an invitation, ever lift Jesus up for a lost soul that He brings our way! Let’s change that this Easter! I believe our simple obedience could be the catalyst God the Holy Spirit has been waiting on to bring in a Great Harvest! I really do! With all my heart and with all my soul, I love you. I really do! Pastor Wayne
