WEEKLY NEWS 25th OCTOBER 2019
Champion Dairy Heifer from PD & BS Lawrence
Auctioneer’s Report (Greg MacDougall) The October Sheep Fair once again had something to suit all requirements with buyers in attendance from various corners of the country. Swale ewes peaked at £76 from TA Sedgwick with stronger ewes in general £50-£65. Broken Mouths depending on quality £40-£60 topping at £72 from J & JE Bradley. The popularity of the Cheviot ewes was certainly obvious with a pen of NCC to £105 while Southies topped at £102. D & B Carlton sold a nice pen of shearlings to £140. Mule ewes looking good value on the day with plenty of pens around £60 with RL & LE Kendal, Outgang topping the section at £100 with a pen of 27. Regular vendors JA & F Nutter sold shearlings to £100 with second quality sorts £75-£90. All shapes and sizes of Continentals and Suffolks were on offer. J & JE Bradley sold Texel x Mule shearlings to £158 with Texel ewes topping at £120 from T Crick. As expected, a mixed show of quality in the gimmer lamb section with a pleasing trade throughout. J Verity, Mid-dlesmoor showed a strong consignment of Mashams topping at £112 with others to £102. Mules averaging just over £60 with nicer pens around £80 topping at £85 from BD & A Horner. Small lambs in the £50s but looking very well sold. Cheviot Mules met another flying trade with ST & EM Harrison selling his best to £88 followed at £86 from Chris Brown. Best Swale and Dalesbred £40-£48 with small lambs £22-£35, All in all, a good day’s trading.
Auctioneer’s Report (Will Alexander): A full ringside of buyers competed for the 139 calves on offer. Trade not as sharp as
previous weeks but still respectable considering the current beef market. Of the 16 Blue bulls on offer, Robin Boothman’s best topped £375, other nice sorts £260-£290, whilst a younger calf could be bought for less. Blue heifers to £285 & £280 from Tom Whitaker, whilst the majority of the 20 forward were younger and could be bought either side of £200. Other stronger Continentals in the £300s for Lims and Sims. Angus bulls generally £225-£265 topping at £290 from George Whitwell with the nicest Angus Heifers £180+, the next draw down £140-170 and those slightly plainer sorts sellable but either side of £110. 5 men ringside for Black and Whites, a weaned calf from D & A Blacoe, Lytham hit £142, others tended to be younger and were around the £70 mark, with the next draw £38-£55 and the smallest at realisation.
