This is the second year of a project where leaders in the congregation were trained and encouraged to initiate conversations with other members. The goal was to deepen and strengthen the relationships that are the fabric of our community, to see if new leaders might emerge, and to understand better what we care most deeply about individually and collectively. Our One on One Listening Campaign hasofficially wrapped up but the work ofconnecting and discerning our valuescontinues. Fair Trade Principles in the USA

The Fair Trade team is hoping to find additional sociallyresponsible vendors who pay fair wages and subscribe tosustainable production standards in the US. Community Renewal Society Action 15 UCE members were part of arousing and successful July 24thmeeting with hundreds of CommunityRenewal Society members and ChiefJudge Evans at New LandmarkMissionary Baptist Church. It was an important step towardreducing the Cook County jail population and diverting savingsto restorative justice (the Reclaim Campaign). Composting at UCE

If you would like to participate in the composting we haveavailable for members at church, please remember tocontribute. We are asking for $5 per person or $20 maximumper family per month to be paid to UCE by check (put"composting" in the memo), through automatic payments ($30minimum), or by putting cash in a giving envelope marked"compost" (found at the back of they hymnal). News from FAST (Food and Shelter Team)

Calling Sponsors for the Giving House

The Food and Shelter Team (FAST) encourages you tosponsor "The Giving House". As you probably know, TheGiving House in our lobby, is where we place our monthlydonations of specific items for Connections for the Homeless.We collect a different item every month, publicized on the sideof the house. Sponsors double what has been collected, eitherin items, or cash. The cost is usually between $20 and $50.Our committee will contact the sponsors at the end of themonth to make arrangements -­ either shopping for the itemsand giving details on where to drop off donations. Volunteer Opportunities at Hilda's Place Shelter

Looking for a way to serve and alleviate homelessness andhunger in our area? Check out the volunteer opportunities pageof our website.
