Lunch Time Information from Our Cafeteria

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT Students with lactose intolerance are now considered eligible for disability accommodations. School Food Authorities must have either the medical statement signed by a health care provider with prescriptive authority or a written request from the parent/guardian to identify the student’s medical or other special dietary need that precludes the consumption of cow’s milk.

Please notify your cafeteria manager and school nurse if you would like your child to get this milk with their lunch. It will also be available ala carte for $1.00. The product will be Lactaid and will come in a 8oz. serving size.

Lunch Time Visitors Restaurant/fast food, carbonated drinks, or glass containers are not al-lowed. Parents may purchase lunch in the cafeteria for $3.30. This cannot come off the student's lunch account. We cannot accept check or credit card payments. It must be paid by cash. And since we do not always have change in our drawers, smaller bills are greatly appreciated. If we cannot provide proper change, than the remaining balance will be deposited into your student's lunch account. Another quick reminder to parents visiting for lunch, please, do not treat other students to food, snack, or ice cream items during your time in the cafeteria. Without proper parent permission, allergy knowledge, and other sensitivities to food choices, it is best to treat only your student. We love having you visit our cafeteria... we just ask you do it safely.

Lunch Time Money Please go online www.mymealtime.com to deposit lunch money or you can send a check in a labeled envelope with student first & last name. Mealtime online passcode is the student ID. Parents can find this number on the Parent RDS website, next to the student’s name on the sched-ule. Parents will use this number to set up the account. All students will receive a hot lunch regardless if the account is negative. No charging of any extras will be allowed. Please Note: All lunch money needs to be brought down in the morning before school, if not it will be deposited the next day.

Did you bring your lunch, but need a drink? Milk may be purchased, if you brought in a lunch from home. It cannot be charged on student lunch card if they have a negative balance. Milk cost is $0.40.

Heating up Lunches Our cafeteria does not warm up food, cook food or wash dishes brought from home. If we tamper with the food it becomes the liability of the cafe-teria. Please, if you are sending in hot food make sure it is in a thermos.

Would you like to Substitute in the Cafeteria? If you would like to be a sub in food services please call Pam Maloney at 662-6480. This is a great way to earn a little extra cash and be home with your children in the morning & afternoon.

Birthday Celebrations Birthday treats are always fun for your child to share with classmates. You may choose to purchase birthday tickets for your child’s class which will allow your child’s classmates to select a special treat from our “Birthday Choices” at lunch! Treats will be given out in our cafeteria. Call your cafe-teria manager, Mrs. “G” Sheppard to preorder & set your party up.

A Message from our Positive Behavior Intervention Specialist

Mrs. Derwinski

STOMP OUT BULLYING TIP Handle the problem privately. Whether dealing with the bully

or the victim—do not discuss it in front of classmates.

From the Art Room

Permission slips have come home with students who are not currently signed up for our Artsonia gallery. You just sign your child up yourself on a smartphone or comput-er; nothing gets returned to school. This is separate from those yellow Artsonia Classroom Mode permissions. I hope your child can participate! It can be very fun and they are able to share their art with family far away. Also, applications for 4th Grade Da Vinci Club are available outside the art room door. There are twelve spots availa-ble and applications are due by December 3rd. Late ap-plications are not accepted and no exceptions will be made. The club will begin on January 9th and meet for 6 sessions. It’s a good idea for students to read the appli-cation carefully and fill the student part out thoroughly by themselves.

A Message from our Home School Facilitator Mrs. Holok

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our Timothy Ball families! Be Thankful

Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire, if you did, what would there be to look forward to? Be thankful when you don’t know something, for it gives you the opportunity to learn. Be thankful for the difficult times, during those times you grow. Be thankful for your limitations, because they give you opportunities for improvement. Be thankful for each new challenge, because it will build your strength and character. Be thankful for your mistakes. They will teach you valuable lessons. Be thankful when you’re tired and weary, because it means you’ve made a difference. It is easy to be thankful for the good things. A life of rich ful-fillment comes to those who are also thankful for the set-backs. GRATITUDE can turn a negative into a positive. Find a way to be thankful for your troubles and they can become your blessings. ~Author Unknown

Child Abuse and Sexual Abuse Prevention Education for Students Recently, the Indiana legislature adopted new legal requirements that each Indiana public school, in-cluding charter schools and accredited nonpublic schools, shall provide age appropriate and research and evidence-based instruction on child abuse and child sexual abuse to students in kindergarten through grade 12. Note that this expands the previous requirement from providing education in grades 2-5 to grades K-12. In order to meet the new requirements, Crown Point school counselors and home-school facilitators will be providing age appropriate, research-informed student personal safety sessions in December 2018 and January 2019. At the elementary level, students will learn the Protect Yourself Rules with their counselor or home-school facilitator in a classroom session of 30-40 minutes. Parents can view the Protect Yourself Rules and related materials at the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center Foundation website fightchildabuse.org. Parents are encouraged to contact Jim Hardman, Director of Curriculum and Instruction, or Deb Ciochina, Assistant Director of Curriculum and Instruction, with questions or concerns at 219.663.3371 or [email protected] or [email protected].

GoGuardian Internet and Application Filtering

To help protect students when using their school-owned Chromebooks at school and at home, Crown

Point Schools will begin using software designed specifically to help ensure students' safety by

providing comprehensive filtering and analytics of student Chromebook usage. The software is called

GoGuardian.

Use of GoGuardian in elementary classrooms will develop throughout the school year as teachers re-

ceive training and as students and parents learn about the application and its uses. In order for this to

occur, the software is deployed to elementary school-owned Chromebooks.

The GoGuardian frequently asked questions describes features of the software.

If you have questions or comments, please email [email protected].

Sick Day Guidelines:

Making the Right Call

When Your Child Is Sick:

Should I keep my child home or send him or her to school? School policy (and/or state law) requires a child to stay home if he or she:

Has a fever of 100.0° or higher Has been vomiting or has diarrhea Has symptoms that keep your child from participating in school, such as:

Very tired or lack of appetite Cough that he or she cannot control, sneezing often Headache, body aches, or earache Sore Throat – a little sore throat is ok for school, but a bad sore throat could be

strep throat, even if there is no fever. Other signs of strep throat, in children are a headache and upset stomach, or rash. Call your doctor if your child has these signs. A special test is needed to know if it is strep throat.

Keep your child home if he or she is coughing or sneezing often because this spread the sickness to others.

24 Hour Rule

FEVER: Keep your child home until his or her FEVER has been gone WITHOUT medi-cine for 24 hours. Colds can be contagious for at least 48 hours. Returning to school too soon may slow recovery and make others sick.

VOMITING OR DIARRHEA: Keep your child home for 24 hours after the LAST time he or she vomited or had diarrhea.

ANTIBIOTICS: Keep your child home until 24 hours after the FIRST dose of antibiot-ics for anything like ear infection or strep throat.

We often have many children and adults with colds coming to school, and each one is passing their sickness to others. Please help others from becoming sick by keep-ing your child home during their illness.
