This surface, which is being referred to by the boys as “our astro”, is a sand based artificial surface which can be used for multiple sports including hockey, tennis, soccer and general Physical Education. In essence, it is a sand-based artificial surface covering the area of four tennis courts with various sport markings and curtains that can be drawn to configure the area in a number of different ways. It will serve to improve specific sports skills as well as be used as an all-weather surface, giving us a new option for PE when the fields are waterlogged. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to the PA, who not only contributed 50% of the overall capital, but also gave the school a loan for the remaining amount, which will be repaid in 2016. Congratulations to our Sports department and to all who were involved in the planning and execution of this project. Enjoy the week. Rob Macaulay SENIOR PREP Edition: 783 01 October 2015

THE STIKEEZ PROJECT for Paediatric Oncology children Hopefully your children are happy to donate a few of their stikeez for a great cause. They will be delivered to children in wards who are on chemo or undergoing radiation or waiting for surgery. It’s so boring for them in hospital and they need some cheer. Distraction is very helpful with the pain. This project was created by All Hands On Dec Friends, in loving memory of Declan (Rhabdomyosarcoma – forever 7 months) and in loving memory of Jed (Brain Cancer – forever 7 years old) and all the children who suffered so badly and left too soon. They should have been stroking earthworms, complaining about bath time and teeth brushing, and putting bows in the dog’s hair. Instead, they are attached to drips, being prodded, poked, scanned and operated on and facing the very likely possibility of dying. A container is available in the chapel to drop off the stikeez. Father Richard (Chaplain)

The aim of the market is to sell products which would appeal as Christmas gifts. Any ideas are considered! Food vendors and children’s entertainment such as face painting, sand art, etc. are welcome.

All goods will be screened – to avoid repetition and the incidence of inappropriate goods.

The price per stall is R500. (St Peter’s School parents will be charged R400) Be part of this exciting event!

PA NEWS

SUPPORTER’S SHIRTS

As a school, we would like to increase our visual support for our children by wearing the newly designed Supporter’s Shirt at all our sporting games and events. Stock of Supporter’s shirts has been received. They come in a ladies’ cut from S-XXL and in a mens’ cut from S-XXXL. Shirts can be bought from The School Shop (from Thursday), directly from Dalene by EFT ([email protected]) or from volunteers who will be selling them at various sports games. Selling price is R200. We hope to see all our parents in their Supporter’s shirts soon!

GOLF DAY - FRIDAY 16 OCTOBER AT THE KYALAMI COUNTRY CLUB

Any support for the golf day in terms of prizes for four balls or sponsorship of holes will be greatly appreciated. Without the continued support of the St Peter’s parents we would not be able to run such successful events such as the Golf Day. If you have any items such as wine, chocolates, wine glasses etc. that you would like to donate towards the prizes, please contact your Class Rep or Dalene ([email protected]) or 083 226 6269.

IRONMAN QUALIFIERS

All Ironman medals will be awarded after half term. The focus of the Ironman Challenge is to promote maximum participation and so if any child was unable to complete one of the legs of the Ironman due to unforeseen circumstances or a clash on the school calendar, then we will accept that the child completes the event of equal distance in their own time and submits this information to Dalene ([email protected]) in order to still qualify for a medal. Closing applications for this will be 16 October.
