2. RIL ranked 20th in list of world's largest chemical firms

  • The country's most valued firm, Reliance Industries , has been named among the world's top 20 chemical companies in a global ranking.
  • The company led by industrialist Mukesh Ambani has been ranked at 20th position in the ICIS Top 100 Chemicals Companies list, which was topped by German major BASF.

3. RINL in talks to buy Neelachal

  • Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited , which operates the Vizag Steel Plant , is in advanced stages of talks with MMTC for acquiring the other state owned, unlisted steel maker, Neelachal Ispat Nigam.
  • The balance equity shareholding is held by Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Orissa (Ipicol), a government of Orissa investment arm.

  • Taiwan-based HTC , maker of smartphones, has us Indians to thank for its breakthrough feature, the polite ringer, on its new models. The ringer lowers its volume the moment the phone comes in touch with your hand.
  • These innovations are all thanks to the insightful Indian consumer who called up the company to say they thought it could make its products even better

  • The good news is that the companys are listening. And how? Nestle India recently launched new flavours of its Maggi noodles in collaboration with their consumers. LG Electronics reworked its existing music systems after interaction with consumers.
  • Panasonic India reworked its original rice cooker when Indian users told its executives they wanted to cook more than just rice in it.
  • HP has taken it to a whole new level by talking to approximately 2,750 Indian families to create Hewlett Packards DreamScreen.

6. IT industry leaders form work group on professionalism, ethics

  • A group of senior professionals, including software icon N R Narayana Murthy today formed a work group that would spearhead an initiative aimed at getting the IT industry to set higher benchmarks in professionalism and ethics.
  • The idea was formulated during a round table on professionalism and ethics, organised by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) at Infosys campus here.
