Microsoft Teams class lesson starts at 9am.
Please log on 5 minutes before and have the resources listed below ready.
You will need:
Device
Reread chapter 1 of the The boy who harnessed the wind and imagine you were there.
What would you see?
Create a picture collage of what you visualise the setting looks like using details from the text.
- What words from the text discuss the setting?
- Which words help you to visualise?
This could include - Drawings - Images from the internet - Images from books/magazines
Here is an example of a picture collage for the book Brindabella
Creating the playground boundary
Your task is to create a playground. First you will need to choose the shape of your playground by using the perimeter lengths (timber boundaries) given to you.
There is a limited number of timber boundaries, the following is all that is left:
3 x 15m
2 x 5m
4 x 8m
4 x 6m
Now create the shape of your playground using the timber boundaries available. Remember you don’t need you use all of them, just the ones that will make the perimeter of your shape.
Now calculate the area of your playground.

Challenge:
Now that you have placed all your equipment, one third of your
remaining surface area must be covered by pavers.
You can choose from the following sized pavers.
1x1, 2x2, 4x4.
What is the least number of pavers you could use to cover the
area? (pavers can’t overlap each other or cover equipment).
