1448 Hoggs 218 Spring Lambs 30 Ewes SQQ – 161.32 £105.50 and 202p/kg SQQ – 213.14 £92.00 & 225p/kg £80.00

Prime Sheep – 1448 Forward

Another full market this week, trade for the hoggetts started steady, but after a few phone calls improved by

some £4-5 per head. Virtually all the hoggs forward were heavy or very heavy.

M/s R Randall & Son took top honours with smart Texel hoggs at 202p/kg others from the same farm sold at

196p/kg. M/s Curtis had 3 pens at 190 to 192p/kg followed by Richard Howlett at 189p/kg, M/s R G Bunce &

Son 188p/kg and Norman Deeley 187p/kg.

James Gibson sold at a pair of very heavy hoggs at £105.50 followed at £104.50 for John Goodman. 3 other

pens hit the £100.00 mark with the smart very heavy hoggs sold around £95.00.

Spring Lambs – 218 Forward

Difficult trading today, hoggs in demand. Spring lambs less so. Reports from other Wednesday markets of

210 to 215p/kg and did not help the trade.

Texel X from M/s Brown and Suddaby sold to 225p/kg with Hyde Lane Farms at 220p/kg. Suffolk X from

Oliver Bowden sold at 218p/kg.

Cull Ewes – 42 Forward

Either fat Mules or even fatter Cotswolds the main entry selling to £80.00 for Cotswolds lean Continentals

sold to £76.20.

An excellent trade for all this Friday. Today’s sale included the May Fair kindly judged by Mr John Drewe who

awarded the best single beast to Peter and David Morris for their Blonde X steer 16 months at £1080.00.

The best pen of cattle was awarded to M/s R E Greaves & Son for their 4 Limousin steers 12 months selling

at £1060.00 to the judge.

Aberdeen Angus X steers topped the day’s trading with Philip Misselbrook selling his 17 month steers out of

Continental cows at £1192.00 for two lots and £1110.00. Nigel Jackson sold his steers out of British Blue X

cows 14 months at £1105.00 and £1002.00,

Peter and David Morris sold their run for £1112.00, £1082.00 and £1080.00 for their Blonde X. John Flanagan

sold his Limousin X steer at £1080.00. M/s Severalls Farm Adbury sold their homebred Lincoln Red Steers

to £872.00 and £848.00 at 13 months. Mark Whitlock sold his outwintered Limousin X 12 months at £870.00.

Mr R Newell topped the heifers at £1082.00 and £1052.00 for Limousin X at 24 months. SMS Farming Ltd

sold Hereford X to £1062.00 and Limousin X at £1042.00. British Blue X from P L Morris sold to £1052.00

with South Devon X from M/s Richardson selling to £1020.00. Aberdeen Angus X sold to £912.00 from Nigel

Legg. Blonde X from Mr R J Lloyd-Campion topped at £930.00 with others from the same farm at £855.00 at

12 months. Amorise Farms sold British Blue X heifers at 10 months to £840.00.

Cows and calves sold to £1082.00 for Simmental X and Aberdeen Angus calf 1 month old.

Clean Cattle (225)

After weeks of falling prices and one week of level pricing trade lifts with ‘R’ grades 308-318p/kg up 5p on the week. Cattle numbers appear to be

tightening nationally with reductions in maximum payable weights cattle have been sold earlier leaving a perceived shortfall for the next few weeks

before grass cattle come forward. Shorthorns to 337p/kg, Aberdeen Angus to 335p/kg, Young Bulls to 305p/kg. Cows also firm with ‘R’ to 255p/kg.

Steers

A U+3 Limousin tops the steers this week at £1373 – purchased from Thame as a store. A U=3= British Blue next in line at £1338 and –U3 to £1314

and R4L to £1290. E2 Charolais to £1333. –U2 Blondes to £1314 and R4L to £1287. –U3 Simmentals to £1301. Aberdeen Angus top the natives this

week with R4L/H to £1354, £1342, £1289 and £1266. Herefords to £1286 for R4L and O+4L to £1175. Beef Shorthorns to £1274 for R4L. O+4L to

£1119.

Heifers

A Charolais heifer tops this week at £1201 for U+2. South Devon’s to £1142 for R4L. Herefords to £1178 for O+4L and £1131 for O+3. R4L Simmentals

to £1125.

Young Bulls

A handful of bulls placed this week with Limousin X Holsteins to £1216 (U-) and R to £1131. Friesian to £1067 for O+4-. Bulls over 16 months to

£1317 for R3.
