PASTOR’S MESSAGE 3

The Catechism of the Catholic Church on Jesus Christ: I. CHRIST'S WHOLE LIFE IS A MYSTERY 514 Many things about Jesus of interest to human curiosity do not figure in the Gospels. Al-most nothing is said about His hidden life at Nazareth, and even a great part of His public life is not recounted.172 What is written in the Gospels was set down there "so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name."173 515 The Gospels were written by men who were among the first to have the faith174 and want-ed to share it with others. Having known in faith who Jesus is, they could see and make others see the traces of His mystery in all His earthly life. From the swaddling clothes of His birth to the vinegar of His Passion and the shroud of His Resurrection, everything in Jesus' life was a sign of His mystery.175 His deeds, miracles and words all revealed that "in Him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily."176 His humanity appeared as "sacrament", that is, the sign and in-strument, of His divinity and of the salvation He brings: what was visible in His earthly life leads to the invisible mys-tery of His divine sonship and redemptive mission. Characteristics common to Jesus' mysteries 516 Christ's whole earthly life - His words and deeds, His silences and sufferings, indeed His manner of being and speaking - is Revelation of the Father. Jesus can say: "Whoever has seen me has seen the Father", and the Father can say: "This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to Him!"177 Because our Lord became man in order to do His Father's will, even the least characteristics of his mysteries manifest "God's love. . . among us".178 517 Christ's whole life is a mystery of redemption. Redemption comes to us above all through the blood of His cross,179 but this mystery is at work throughout Christ's entire life: - already in His Incarnation through which by becoming poor He enriches us with His poverty;180 - in His hidden life which by His submission atones for our disobedience;181 - in His word which purifies its hearers;182 - in His healings and exorcisms by which "He took our infirmities and bore our diseases";183 - and in His Resurrection by which He justifies us.184 518 Christ's whole life is a mystery of recapitulation. All Jesus did, said and suffered had for its aim restoring fallen man to His original vocation:

When Christ became incarnate and was made man, He recapitulated in Himself the long history of mankind and procured for us a "short cut" to salvation, so that what we had lost in Adam, that is, being in the image and likeness of God, we might recover in Christ Jesus.185 For this reason Christ experienced all the stages of life, thereby giving communion with God to all men.186

Enrich your Lenten devotion! Come join our group as we pray daily during lent. Each participant commits to spend some time each day in prayer and then to meet Saturdays to share the past week’s grace. The daily prayer meditations are based on daily scripture and the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola. It is an opportunity to pause, reflect, listen and respond to the voice of God as God speaks to your heart. The kick-off meeting is on Saturday, February 6th, 10:15AM Xavier Hall, the Up-per Room – SSPP Parish, Mankato. The final session is on Saturday, April 2nd. If you would like to register or would like more information, please call Frank Cesario at 507-625-2395 or email [email protected]

JANUARY 24, 2016 4

3º DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO 24 DE ENERO 2016

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. LECTURAS DE LA SEMANA Lunes: Hch 22:3-16 o 9:1-22; Sal 117 (116):1bc, 2; Mc 16:15-18 Martes: 2 Tim 1:1-18 o 9:1-22; Sal 24 (23):7-10; Mc 3:31-35 Miércoles: 2 Sm 7:4-17; Sal 89 (88):4-5, 27-30; Mc 4:1-20 Jueves: 2 Sm 7:18-19, 24-29; Sal 132 (131):1-5, 11-14; Mc 4:21-25 Viernes: 2 Sm 11:1-4a, 5-10a, 13-17; Ps 51 (50):3-7, 10-11; Mc 4:26-34 Sábado: 2 Sm 12:1-7a, 10-17; Sal 51 (50):12-17; Mc 4:35-41 Domingo: Jer 1:4-5, 17-19; Sal 71 (70):1-6, 15, 17; 1 Cor 12:31 — 13:13 [13:4-13]; Lc 4:21-30

Candelaria
