Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Our 60th Anniversary Photo Directory is off to a great start with 89 fami-lies being photographed in June. If you were not one of them, and haven’t scheduled your appointment yet, please do so soon. We have 103 appoint-ments scheduled in July and September. Assuming no missed appoint-ments or cancellations, that leaves us 8 short of our goal of 200. If 200 families are photographed (no purchase necessary), Lifetouch will upgrade our directory to a hard bound book, which will be a wonderful keepsake for our Diamond Anniversary Celebration. Appointments are still availa-ble on July 24 -27 and September 6 & 7. Sign up online at www.qofa.org or https://booknow-lifetouch.appointment-plus.com/yqytrc98/. Each ses-sion will take about an hour and will be at the Community Center. Re-member, the session is free, you will receive a free 8 x 10 photograph and a free directory when they are published next year (and being photo-

graphed is the only way to guaranty receipt of a directory).

Also, remember the book is intended to be a directory of our active parishioners. Regardless of whether you are photographed, the contact information for each household to be published will be generated from the Par-ish Database with information you have already provided to Queen of Apostles. This includes: mailing name, mailing address, home phone number and family e-mail. An opportunity to review/correct the information will be offered at the photography sessions or you can contact the Parish office to review the information we have for you in our database. If you do not want your information published in either the printed or mobile versions of the directory (or both), please contact the Dirk Jan Maasen at [email protected] or 408-213-6510 and let us know before September 9.

The California province of the Sisters of Notre Dame are grateful to have the opportunity to introduce the pa-rishioners of Queen of Apostles to our mission in Buseesa, Uganda. On July 27-28, Sr. Lisa Megaffin will share our mission story with you. In 1998, the Sisters of Notre Dame opened St. Julie Primary School and in 2006, Notre Dame Academy Secondary School for girls in the Kibaale district in Uganda. Notre Dame Academy is particularly important since educating young women is a low priority in that area. Both schools charge a very low tuition, including room and board. Due to underdeveloped methods of agri-culture, poor infrastructure, lack of transportation and political instability, the per capita income is very low. Nevertheless, parents are willing to make many sacrifices because both schools provide a strong moral and academic foundation, nutritious meals and health care. They believe a sound education, Catholic leadership training and the empowerment of women will enable their children to break the cycle of poverty and superstition and to become leaders on both local and national levels. In this relatively short period of time, the mission has grown to include a pre-school and a farm. A current major goal is to install a pump water system that will provide clean water for everyone at the mission and the local villagers—22,000 people! And a number of women from the area are now professed Sisters of Notre Dame and are starting their ministries. As Sisters of Notre Dame, we believe that God’s goodness is expressed through human goodness. The growth of our Ugandan mission is possible because of the generosity of thousands of individuals and groups. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to introduce you to our mission—we look forward to meeting you! Learn more at www.sndca.org

Family Faith Formation 408-255-9950

Faith formation is more than just “Sunday School.” It is a life-long process. At Queen of Apostles, our Family Faith For-mation ministry presents opportunities for both children and

adults to grow in knowledge and understanding of their faith. In addition to our weekly classes, we offer preparation for the

sacraments, encourage active participation in Sunay liturgies, and provide resources to promote strong Catholic families. For more information, contact

Kristie Manning at 408-255-9950, or email [email protected]

Dear Parishioners, Queen of Apostles School is closed for the sum-mer. Classes will resume on August 14, 2019. Prospective families are invited to attend the mini open houses that will be held over the

summer months: August 4, 2019 10:00 am – 12:30 pm The school office is open in August from 9am - 1pm. If you are inter-ested in enrolling, please see our school website at www.qofa-school.org and/or contact the school office.

HIGH SCHOOL Youth Ministry and Confirmation

Sponsor a teen to attend the Steubenville Conference! There are 3 teen leaders and 1 young adult leader from Queen of Apostles who are in need of financial assis-tance to attend the Steubenville Con-

ference, July 26-28, in San Ramon. This is a great opportunity for them to encounter Jesus in adoration and the Sacraments, to learn what it means to be a disciple of Christ, and to bring back what they experienced to our parish. If you are able to sponsor a teen to go or to make a donation, please make checks payable to Queen of Apostles, write “Steubenville” in the memo, and drop it off in the offertory basket or parish office. Each registration fee is $205.00. Thank you in advance for your generosity and utmost kindness! Thank you Ladies Guild! The youth ministry thanks the Ladies Guild for sponsoring 2 addi-tional teen leaders to attend the Steubenville Conference. It is a huge blessing and a gift to the young church! Prophets and Peacemaker

Quattrocchi family Mr. and Mrs. Luigi Quattrocchi are the first married couple declared Blessed and on their way to sainthood. They lived an extraordinary life dedicated to Jesus as they raised their four children in Rome. Although they both worked, their home was a sacred place and all of the children were imbued with their spiritual guidance. It was said that the couple “made a true do-mestic church of their family which was open to life, prayer, and solidarity with the poor.” During the Nazi occupation, their home was a refuge for Jewish refugees. No one who knocked at their door was ever turned away. During the war, Maria worked as a volunteer for the Red Cross. She and Luigi also accompanied sick pilgrims to Lourdes. They actively lived their faith and their commitment to helping those on the mar-gins. Three of their children entered the religious life.

At their beatification, Pope John Paul told their children “your parents handed on the burning lamp (of faith) not only to you but to their friends, acquaintances and colleagues. And now from heaven they are giving it to the whole Church.”
