Monday Clergy Class Now Through December 18| Noon | Room B-18
For the month of November through December 18, the Rev. Merrill Wade is leading a Read-Through of the New Testament Book of the Acts of the Apostles. All classes begin at noon, last one hour, and are held in Room B-18 in the basement of the Sanctuary. Bibles are provided but you should bring your Bible if you prefer. This class is meant to be a mix of scholarship and devotional reading with significant class participation. All are invited and bring a friend! Submitted by Merrill Wade
Class Update: In week 3, we read through Acts 10; we will begin with chapter 11 on November 27.
Holiday Remembrance Eucharist Sunday, November 26 | 5:00 pm | Sanctuary
Our faith tells us we return to that place of unbridled love we have always longed for. The flicker-ing light of many candles, the hushed atmosphere of reverence for loved ones, the quietly-shed tears of release, and the hope
for our own souls, interspersed with Taizé chants, unites us to those we miss and to others we sit near who feel their own
losses. With grateful hearts, we remember.
Please join us for this annual contemplative service of remembrance to honor our loved ones who have gone before us, or who may not be present for this holiday season. The sanctuary will open early for those who wish to come and light candles in memory of a loved one. The service will begin at 5:00 pm. Afterward, there will be an opportunity to walk the labyrinth; you’re also invited to a quiet reception in the narthex . Many thanks to the St. Matthew's Pastoral Care Council for hosting the reception. Submitted by Linda Fryer
It’s Time for Angel Tree Ministry!
The Angel Tree program is designed to provide a gift to a child in the name of his or her incarcer-ated parent. This year St. Matthew’s will provide gifts to children in various parts of the state by sending a Christmas card with a $25 Walmart gift card and a note from the incarcerated parent.
Tables for Angel Tree will be set up in the Commons and Huffman Hall where you can select a child to support this Christmas season. It’s simple to do! After you select a child’s name from the table, purchase a $25 gift card from Walmart, write the parent’s message in the card provided and mail it.
Look for the Angel Tree tables after the 10:30 service on December 3 and December 10. Submitted by Linda Noy

We have started an “Angels for Homeless” list for people who are interested in helping intermittently with particular needs of homeless neighbors. We will send out occasional emails to our list of Angels and if you are in a position to help on particular needs at that time, please let us know and we will coordinate pick up and deliver. Invitation: Fellowship Breakfast with Guest Speaker Dean Busboom Saturday, December 9 | 8:00-9:30am | Huffman Hall
All men & women are invited! MARK your calendars to attend the December breakfast meeting.
Dean Busboom explores the intertestamental period, roughly the 400 years preceding the introduction of the New Testament. This period provides context for ready acceptance of Christ and his message from God, as found in scripture. This is a timely discussion, as the "Sing-It-Yourself” Messiah Chorus Austin concert occurs on December 16. Dean, who is the Senior Adults Pastor at Riverbend Church, leads a semi-annual pilgrimage to the Holy Land, exploring the spiritual, cultural, and historical significance of the land located between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. Dean shared his experiences from his 5th trip to Israel and 3rd trip to Jordan at our February, 2017 Fellowship Breakfast.
So that we may estimate food quantities & setup, please RSVP by email, call, or text to Bruce Newman ([email protected], 512-940-0518). For more information on “Men's Fellowship” programs visit: http://www.stmattsaustin.org/Serve/zministry-directory.html
Enjoy good fellowship, good food, and an interesting speaker, sponsored by the St. Matthew Chapter of the Brotherhood of Saint Andrew, striving for the disciplines of Prayer, Study, & Service. Submitted by Don Neely

Offshoots Small Groups
Offshoots small groups are a chance for parishioners to share our passions with one another and our neighbor. This initia-tive grows out of the idea that wherever Christians are present, the body of Christ is revealed. So have some fun with these groups, get to know your fellow parishioners, and invite a friend to “come and see” a little glimpse of the Kingdom. If you want to form your own Offshoot with support from church staff and clergy, email [email protected] and [email protected]. Formation of groups is a rolling process throughout the year, so keep your ideas coming!

Children’s & Youth Sunday Morning Formation
The Family Ministry Team has an exciting season of programming planned for this autumn. Susan and Travis will be offering a kid-friendly curriculum on health and wellness designed to dovetail with our adult programming for this fall. Continuing through the fall, we’ll be basing our gatherings on the Living Compass curriculum, “outfitting individuals, families, congrega-tions, and organizations with tools and training for the journey toward wellness and wholeness.” Our community as a whole will congregate Sunday mornings at 9:15 am in Huffman Hall; and children and youth will then break off for age-appropriate lessons on “Heart, Soul, Strength & Mind.”
The Mix (3rd, 4th and 5th Graders) Sunday, November 26 | 2:00 - 4:00 pm | Brookdale Senior Center
In the spirit of the holiday season approaching and the gratitude we feel for community, The Mix will be celebrating the Eucharist with residents of Brookdale Senior Center—around the corner
from St. Matthew’s (behind Randall’s). After the church service, we will play games and visit with the residents. This is an activity for the whole family OR bring some friends along! For more information, contact Susan Goodman at [email protected].
Children’s Christmas Pageant, First Call for Lead Characters
It is almost that time again! Susan Goodman is taking names for children to participate in the Children’s Pageant on Christmas Eve (Sunday, December 24, at 4:00 pm.). We are in need of Mary, Joseph, Baby Jesus, Guardian Angel, Wise Men, Angel Gabriel, Innkeeper, Star, Lead Shepherds, Lead Angels, and more.
ALL children are encouraged to participate in the pageant and if your child feels like they want a more visible role, please contact Susan at [email protected]. It’s a first-come, first-served list, so be sure to send in a request. We will have a short rehearsal the Sunday prior to the pageant (December 17 after the 10:30 service, in the sanctuary).
Christmas is an exciting and joyful time at St. Matthew’s. Be sure to invite your friends, neighbors, and loved ones to join us for the Advent and the Christmas seasons.
